Couldn't ask for a better forecast... great extended weekend (for those who get one :P)

way, way too warm. was thinking about taking monday off to do some hiking up on the skyline drive, but now i'm leaning against it. last thing i want to do is hike and view foliage (maybe) while sweating my arse off in near-summer heat and fighting off swarming bugs. absolute perfect weather so far this week, and right on cue a heat-wave arrives just in time for the week-end. a big FU to mother nature!

you won't sweat up there

drop 8-10 degrees off those numbers, especially 3500' and higher

the bigger problem is all the wine drinking, nature-loving DC'ers that show up this time of year down there like the so-called "horse racing enthusiasts" attending the Kentucky Derby with their hats

they make traffic a nightmare

Oh the irony...... you go up to there to escape to nature in all its glory... and you run smack into traffic jams.

Temps will be more reasonable up there, but unfortunately, the festival of leaves is this weekend also, and there will be no escaping the heat in downtown FR. Last year I seem to recall it being hot also. It's just a shame we couldn't have had yesterday's weather this weekend. Heat waves arrived just in time for Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and now Columbus Day. That's a perfect 4 for 4 for the ruination of the prime outdoor holidays. Keeping my fingers crossed that 70 degree weather doesn't arrive in time to ruin Thanksgiving as well.

Off-topic (or at least out of area), but I'm down in Melbourne Beach today, with a front-row view of the storm just off the coast. Some pictures (and a video with the howling wind), if interested:

Two shots: (hard to tell in these photos, easier in some of the others, how big the waves are)

Beautiful day, but the bugs were SWARMING. Stink bugs (worst all year), mosquitos, ants, termites (huge colony was born today, they were everywhere), etc...

I was down in Great Falls yesterday and couldn't believe the number of stink bugs. I don't know if I'm just lucky, but we don't have that many up this way. But today, just down the street at a friend's house, I was attacked by a gang of mosquitoes and saw a swarm of flying ants leaving their nest. I guess they know that time is short.

But, like you said, a gorgeous weekend.

This. We cleaned our porch Saturday and they came out in droves. We couldn't let the dog stay out on the porch at all this weekend because he kept eating them. Which is okay, once or twice...but eventually he gets sick to his stomach and... yeah... gross.
