nj2va
I went to a few of those back in July. Was Chrysallis one of them? It's off Rte 50 2 miles from Middleburg...one of my favorites.
mattie g
Great day for a soccer game. Warm and sunny enough to get a good sweat without being boiled alive, and cool enough to be able to cool down quickly when needed. Awesome.
BethesdaWX
Some sort of local temperature gradient this early morning, Bannockburn & points E are all around 50 degrees via wx bug, and all points W of there immediately drop off to 42-43 degrees. 45 here, DCA at 52 still. CranberryWX
I was away for a few days, but my station recorded a 32 on Friday and Sunday morning. Wife said there was frost. And, I missed the deluge last Wednesday when 1.45" fell.

Bob Chill
I was camping outside of Gettysburg Thurs - Sun. We just missed frost on Sun morning. Bottomed out at 34. New tent heater worked great. Keeps the tent about 10 degrees above outside. That plus great sleeping bags made it very comfortable.
CranberryWX
A thunderstorm is rolling through with decent lightning and long, rumbling thunder. If it wasn't cold outside I would have thought this was a summer storm. Maybe it will be the last thunder heard this season.

It was cold, raw and wet the whole time with the temperature hovering between 38 and 44. Didn't see any sun the whole time until on the way back Sunday. A few ice pellets fell during the rain showers. My accommodations were a little bit better than a tent though.

Bob Chill
there were lots of rainbows today. i didnt see any. why are rainbows so exciting? because there are little green men and pots of gold at the end right? Otherwise, seeing the light spectrum arcing through the sky is pretty cool It's just one of those phenomenons that's fun to look at. For whatever reason, humans are hard wired to gape at the sky especially when it's colorful for any reason. I doubt animals care too much about that stuff. lol

CranberryWX
did you get any deer? we saw the guy who takes care of our lawn on Friday, and he'd gotten his quota last week (bow hunting). he said pickings were slim in eastern WV. No, we don't hunt anymore...we basically lost interest in it. My brothers and I get together once or twice a year for a "man camp" extended weekend. No females. A couple of the my brothers did some late season trout fishing though. The deer are finally coming back after years of being thinned out by the game commision. We watched the deer fielding in the fields in front of our camp every morning and evening. I set up my trail cam in the backyard and recorded a nice buck passing through along with a spike and several does at night. Fox, skunks, and an opossum made a visit too. No bear this time. I got some nice pictures of elk on the way up. A new elk visitors center near Benezette, PA just opened up. A lot of people drive up there to see the elk. I was hoping for some early snow on the mountain tops, but not this year.
Bob Chill
When I lived in the CO rockies there were heards of elk. Pretty awesome animals. I don't hunt but I had friends who would buy tags every year. I would pay part of the butcher cost for a share of meat. Much better than venison and I love venison too. I used to have to help get the game out of the woods. Alot of time you would kill one far off the 4x4 trail. We would quarter it and basically drag it on our backs piece by piece to the 4 wheeler. I spooked one that was bedding in brush near a river while I was fishing. It crashed out of the brush 15 feet from me and ran away. If it crashed out right at me I would have been in the hospital or worse. Scared the crap out of me. I always loudly approached brush after that close call. snownut
NWS Now casting. Went from 20% chance of showers today to solid shield of rain and now 90% for rest of today. Major damper on my firewood cutting, at least I got a few hours in.
Mrs.J
Started out the day with sun and not to bad temps. Came out from getting the car serviced and darn it was cloudy and much cooler! Have had some light sprinkles, enough to blotch the pavement.
CranberryWX
man camp sounds like fun and I'd love to see some elk live and in person. we sometimes have bears roaming downtown so I'd rather NOT see them. also popped in to say that although my forecast calls for a dry day, radar seems to hint that it's going to rain here in the next hour... Here's one I took last Wednesday near the Elk Visitors Center in Benezette. It was right in someones backyard. They are truly huge!!! We saw a herd of 25 or more in a field nearby this one. It's worth a trip if you've never seen them before. Late September/early October is the mating season and you can hear them bugling. There have been sporadic sightings near our camp, usually a lone bull wandering. Currently the main herd is about 40 -50 miles away, but I'm sure they will spread out over time. Master of Disaster
EAS Activated for a tornado warning for Montgomery and Howard County. I think its safe to say that's a mistake. From LWX: All (media and emergency management)As we currently know, at least 3 tornado warnings have been issued outside of the office for the mid Atlantic region. We are working furiously at the highest levels of our agency to find the source of these invalid alerts and stop them immediately. Please disregard any tornado warnings today in the mid Atlantic region. We will let you know the resolution of this as soon as possible.
