This has been the weirdest year for thunderstorms I can remember. Strange setups, synoptics, strange movements not the typical west to east or something like it. I have had close to 40 thunderstorm days this year much more than last.

I should update the DCA count. We were way above the 30-yr avg back in Jul/Aug. Of course that counts days with thunder and no rain and we've managed to get missed by some of the best stuff this yr. Today was pretty solid though.. I wish I was outside for it. Oct only avgs 1 day of t-storm a yr last 30. There are some notable tornado events in this range though so while not common to get a lot of storms we're back into a brief window with digging troughs and some warmth/moisture around.

LCL height at 12z FRI at KIAD per Earl Barker off the 0z NAM is 29.3m and LFC height is 101.8m. I have never seen it that low before

the vort comes thru too soon on the nam. maybe favor up toward nj/nyc/sne area if anywhere. trough's starting to weird out.. today was more than likely the day.

Leaves dropping & sticking to the south facing windows, finally in the autumn spirit despite the mugginess & mosquito socked night.

Also wondering does anyone know what DCA's record high minimum temp is for the upcoming date?

67, so the record is safe. IAD's is 60, but we'll probably drop below that this evening.
