mby temp has dropped to 60 and it looks like a small batch of light rain has crossed the river and is headed this way. :weight_lift:

Wahoo! I expect you to get a better chance at rain now the low is forming. and Rina is helping with moisture. Fingers crossed for you to get hammered. No....not that way :) 66 and drizzle. T

Boone is sitting at 32 right now with reports of snow for the last few hours. The rates should really pick up as the main precip band starts to move in from Tenn. I think they might get a surprise heavy event tonight. NWS should post Winter Storm Warnings...

Cam is frozen up at Beech Mtn Pkwy on lense. So all precip from here on out will be frozen in some form.

Heading up that way in the morning!

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BLACKSBURG VA

720 PM EDT FRI OCT 28 2011

.POCKETS OF FREEZING RAIN...FREEZING DRIZZLE AND SNOW IN THE

MOUNTAINS THIS EVENING...

THERE WILL BE PERIODS OF MAINLY LIGHT RAIN THIS EVENING ACROSS THE

MOUNTAINS...BUT SOME TEMPERATURES ARE AT OR BELOW FREEZING...SO

THOSE AREAS COULD SEE A BLEND OF FREEZING RAIN...FREEZING DRIZZLE

OR SNOW. AT THE MOMENT THE GROUND TEMPERATURES ARE WARM...BUT

ELEVATED SURFACES SUCH AS BRIDGES COULD GET A LIGHT COATING OF

ICE. SO IF TRAVELING...ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN BE ALERT

TO THIS POTENTIAL...AS WELL AS PATCHY DENSE FOG.

Special weather statement issued for Boone. I'm in Boone for the weekend. My unofficial temp is 32 and it's misty. I'd post the statement but I don't know how. The deck is icy. I would love to wake up to a snowy scene.

Rainy and wet it has been all day. Persistent drizzle and occasional heavier showers have made for what I consider to be a lovely fall afternoon. Temperatures are just now dipping into the 30s.

Depending on how reports look in the morning I may make a quick trip into NC.

Current stations with temperature readings at or below 49F degrees: (temperature is in black, dew point is in blue.)

Where did you find that map?

Well this system has been interesting to watch. Got no frozen precip, where I live. The prospect that winter weather is being already talked about, makes me optimistic about the upcoming winter.

Update: Getting heavy rain at 1:45 AM EST

Had .53" rain with this system. Some notes on this one are that NAM was too cold, even after adjusting to a warmer scenario for VA and NC later on in runs. Could be from the upgrade. GFS looked too far south with its precip, so thats another bias. Overall the damming did well in NC...I dropped into the low 40s last night and went to 39 a couple hours ago. The sun should be back this afternoon with downsloping and the first frost is possible Sunday AM.
