Currently 58 or so here. Not too windy as others have noted. Leaves are really beginning to change in a hurry now. Yesterday's windy wx in the afternoon knocked quite a few down. The best part so far has been watching the crab grass die off. Now just to keep it from coming back in the spring!

I lost quite a few leaves when the front came through and blew everything around. I got just under an inch of rain in the two day event. The new grass in the yard is coming up really nice right now. High of 60.1 after a morning low of 40.9. I love the feel of fall in the air.

I've noticed some bare trees up my way too. We are still a few days/week away from peak it appears but some of the pretty maples lost their leaves last night. On a side note: I'm not one for superstitions but this year has had the most walnuts/pecans/acorns that I've ever seen. I've found so many black walnuts this year that I can't even eat them all (going to make black walnut ice cream). My aunt has a 50' pecan that never produces but this year it is loaded. Maybe it was a perfect summer for nuts. I wish that the old superstition would come true and it would translate to a cold winter. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've had my fair share of invading bugs for the past couple of months.  LOTS of mole and your usual black crickets don't know when to stop coming in, though they have been backing off lately. They were like this the past two years as well during Fall.  If it's not them, it's the massive swarm of gnats on a warm day.  I have no idea where they come from or how they're hiding so well when it gets chilly but they are always in your face while trying to do yardwork.  Aggravating like I don't know what but I'm glad today's weather kept them away.

Speaking of today, looks like 59 was the high after all and max gust was up to 24mph. Nice evening to make some soup.

tonights a good night to burn in a fire pit chimanea ( or is it chimney) ? a lady gave me this recently. I'll move it when I make the stepping stone walkway, so the mulch won't burn. Meanwhile, I looked for the ISS, no luck. Nothing but jets. Too many trees on the north side of my property.

Been working up in Pike County Kentucky since August and was greeted with a stiff breeze this afternoon and few flakes mixed in the drizzle here and there. Expected that in the area I am in since it is right along the VA border, along with temps that didn't come close to getting out of the 40's.

An outdoor fireplace is really nice! Father in law has a gas chimanea like yours, brother in law built a stacked stone fireplace on his patio, we are thinking of getting one of those gas fire pits...the kind you hook up one of those small propane drums to....The fall is my favorite time of year to be out on my screened in porch.....no pollen....no humidity....just right!! This weather is FABULOUS!!!! Hoping the cold keeps refreshing itself.

brrr is right lol. current temp 45.1, the high was 45.9 (yeah i know splitting hairs with tenths of a degree :) ) normally i like clouds and wind, but i am ready for them both to go away so we can get our first frost of the season tonight :snowman:

Looking good over here. Down to 39.1 already. We did actually have some scattered frost back on the 3rd when we hit 37.1 but we should exceed that easily tonight.

Got acorns hitting the tin roofs like shots, but the black walnut was less than normal in fruiting. Two years ago was a bumper crop, last year more normal, this year below normal, plus it lost all it's leaves weeks ago. I'm sure the lack of rain here is the cause....but, oddly, it is the only tree that has lost leaves. Now, the pomegranate next to it is going crazy with the sour things. I was taking pics today around the yard, and none of my trees have lost any leaves....and not much color showing either. Got to 46 last night, and it is 46 now, so I hope my fire tonight won't be overkill, like last night :) T

It's even more hilarious on the 216 hr. The fact that it shows a range from .5 to 4 inches alone across NC is crazy but it's also strange how that solution has shown up in the same period for a few times now. Too bad it's the only model and especially considering the time of the year. Still it's quite fun to look at.

The 00Z GFS still shows a decent snow for East TN northward:

My take on this is that it's possible climatologically, and is plausible with our current pattern.

I would guess that from the time this was out at 288h to 180h, it has been extremely consistent with painting > 1" from NE TN through upstate PA and NY through WV. My call, if it were to happen, would be for 1" from the tri-cities in TN northward for something like this.

The first good snow of the season for western VA, WVA, ne TN should be coming around in the next month anyway.

I doubt it would make it further south than Morristown (and I do not include Knoxville because I don't think we'll get measurable snow this early this season).

Agreed. Just a little too windy today. FFC think Saturday morning will be the best for frost too.

I had some ice on my truck but I couldn't tell about the yard. I always measure the first frost by how much kudzu it kills. We've been at 35 for awhile so that's probably the low.
