dsaur
Whats up americanwx and former eastern member?. How is everyone doing? Ive been lurking for awhile finally decided to join. Its been awhile. Though I wont be posting much as I use to in Eastern. Anyway raining again with a band coming through sitting 59 degrees here. So far .80" since last night. Would be nice to get some thunderstorms later but highly doubt it. Its just too cool and stable for anything here. Unless the sun comes out which again highly doubt it. Down east looks better. Where you been? At least you got back in time for winter. Sorry you missed the summer...we had a great time....lots of boring weather with 90+ every day Now comes the fun parade! FLweather
Where you been? At least you got back in time for winter. Sorry you missed the summer...we had a great time....lots of boring weather with 90+ every day Now comes the fun parade! T Ive taken a much needed break from weather boards. Grows old in a way behind a computer screen tracking long range fantasy storms. Better to enjoy weather the way it was meant living life day by day and enjoying the weather as it goes. I know your not reminding me nothing of the heat. Atleast for these parts has been a little wetter than past summers. But looks like you and other se members along with south central can't hardly by the first drop. But hopefully the rain deficits in the south will return to a normal basis since these cutoff lows have been frequent. I hope this type of pattern continues into Feb bc I wasn't too impressed with last winter. The highlight of last winter was the xmas snow and only got 5" from that. I think ended the winter 10/11 with 11-12" which is fairly normal. I wouldn't mind a winter like 09/10 finished out with roughly 19"
Blue Ridge
The floodgates have unleashed this morning, as we're approaching an inch of rain and it continues to fall. The cutoff looks to be just west of Knoxville as the front closes in, so I'm (hopefully) looking forward to another two hours of drizzle and moderate showers. It's still a rather mild 64°. Solak
Nothing measurable here today since the overnight showers, but it's been all around us again. Not sure we're going to get to near 80 today as forecast, either, unless there's some breaks in the clouds. Currently still holding at 66.
jrips27
I'm sick and home from school. Picked up .36" overnight, which was actually more than i expected. I've only been outside twice today, but it feels really refreshing. Winds is whipping as I look out my window. Currently 46 with a wind chill (first time I've said that it a while) of 40! btw, does anybody have the website that shows you a map of temperature anomalies so far in October? I can't remember what its called.
Isopycnic
You got .30 off that band that past through the last hour or so? Jeeze. .15" off that band here for storm total of .95" Welcome back@!

Cheeznado
Home from vacation- only .65" for the month until yesterday, but got a very unexpected (given the models' forecasts) .23" yesterday afternoon and .65" overnight/early morning today. valkhorn
We got about 1.5" of rain here in Knox overnight. It was pouring hard for a couple of hours. Now it's in the mid 40s at my house and the rain is slowly tapering off.
EmersonGA
I think I am going to make the season's first fire tonight. Anybody else got a fire planned?

Now it's in the mid 40s at my house and the rain is slowly tapering off. I'm up to 1.09" now and raining light to occasionally moderate. Much more rain fell just to your north and my west last night and this morning with a general 2-3.5 inches measured from Middlesborough,Ky to London, Ky to Lafolette, Tenn. Currently 46.9 here and steadily falling.
NEGa
I've had just under an inch here so far. Not expecting much more but what was interesting was for about 30 minutes it was pouring rain without a single radar return over me. The nearest returns were 30 miles away to the west. It was actual rain and some of the heaviest drizzle type precip I've ever seen I think..it was so heavy that it had the same appearance of moderate to heavy rain except it was drizzle and it was coming down in big sheets/waves. Pretty cool. Front just moved through here a little bit ago and like everyone else about a 6 degree temp change. same thing here last night and this morning (the phantom rain not on radar lol) - it happens sometimes in winter storms so i have to admit thats what i thought last night. nothing on radar, but i could hear the rain just pounding temps are way down, 50 and breezy! usually a few degrees cooler imby so it may already be in the 40s there I think I am going to make the season's first fire tonight. Anybody else got a fire planned? heck yes! tonight or tomorrow - although its cold, cloudy and windy so i am thinking about having the first fire of the season tonight as well woo hoo! Carvers Gap
Can't remember the last time the weather has been this nasty in NE TN - temps dropping(low 50s), windy, light rain, low cloud deck. Was up on Mt. Mitchell yesterday and it was 68F. The leaves were off the trees at 5,000 ft. The weather there is just a different world altogether. I bet that's the last nice day up there for quite some time.
FallsLake
Still in the mid 60s here is Raleigh. We're actually sitting within a weak CAD waiting for the cold front. Places just east of here are well into the 70s. Strange setup has our cold air coming in from the SW. Colder in south Georga than places in Virginia. Was suppose to get to 73 but only looks like 65 may be it. If we could have gotten some sun today then we would be having alot of storms right now. But oh well atleast there is a broken line of storms along the coldfront in SC maybe it will fill in a bit. Im watching that cluster just NW of Florence. Gastonwxman
Got an additional .16 (up to 1.68 total) from the event this morning thanks to a quick-hitting heavy shower. The sun has managed to pop out here and the breeze is beginning to kick in. EDIT (4:45pm): Wind is beginning to blow in between 20-25 mph. Dropped from 66 to 60 in an hour or two. Local Yokel Wx
The moisture is really beginning to bank against the SW NC Mtns. Looks like Im waking my ass up early to catch some flakes during the pre dawn hours Thursday. Some spots above 5500' in the SW Mtns have already dipped below freezing. Some spots above 5500' in the SW Mtns have already dipped below freezing. local, Looks like the Balsams will be a great spot overnight. Let us know what you see. Here is part of the GSP near term afd. OVERNIGHT THE WESTERLY WINDS WILL REMAIN FAIRLY STOUT...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE NC MTNS. THE WSW ORIENTATION OF THE GRADIENT ACROSS THE MTNS WILL MITIGATE THE STRONG WINDS IN MOST OF THE VALLEYS. THE BEST SYNOPTIC SCALE FORCING WILL STAY NORTH OF THE REGION OVERNIGHT...SO PRECIP WILL COME MAINLY FROM OROGRAPHIC EFFECTS. THE BEST OROGRAPHIC EFFECTS WILL BE IN THE SW MOUNTAINS WHERE THE BEST COVERAGE OF PRECIP WILL BE FORECAST. SNOW LEVELS WILL DROP TO AROUND 3500 FEET OVERNIGHT...AND MINOR ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SMOKIES AND WESTERN GRAHAM COUNTY. FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL BE CONFINED MAINLY TO ELEVATIONS ABOVE 4000 FEET...TOO SMALL OF AN AREA TO WARRANT A FREEZE WARNING.
dsaur
Ive taken a much needed break from weather boards. Grows old in a way behind a computer screen tracking long range fantasy storms. ..... Lol, tracking storms in la la land got old for you, and Robert would rather have rain than snow.... I must have got off the train in Bizzaro World I think I am going to make the season's first fire tonight. Anybody else got a fire planned? Oh, yeah, man. I've got enough wood now to get me through a year in the middle of an ice age Got to burn some before the termites get it all. Only trouble is it is warming up here now the suns been out. When I get my winter skin I wouldn't think about a fire until it is in the 30's, so I'm a bit embarrassed to have smoke coming out the stack and it's in the 50's, and me still in my shorts, lol.
