wisconsinwx
Some of the southern IL folks would probably be willing to trade in a frosty autumn night for some bonus lake effect snow squalls in the winter though lol. True, but as for me I'll take a frosty night at this point so I don't have to worry about the amount of time I spend outdoors (b/c of ragweed). Chicago Storm
After falling quickly this evening the temp has leveled off and been sitting steady around 42 for the past few hours. The dp is still sitting at 40, so any drop from this point should be slow. LOT's forecast low of 33 is in jeopardy of being too low.
Wintersrage
Still 41 here, weird Lima being the warm spot.......... I no longer have my old service provider, which is why I opened the new account fwiw.

hawkeye_wx
Only got down to 36 here in town, with no widespread freezing temps anywhere around here. There appears to be a decent frost covering the open field nearby, but only a slight frost in the most open part of my yard. The exposed plants are just wet. Now, let the warmup commence. snowstormcanuck
Driest October imby was back in 2000 (0.87"). I think 2011 can beat that barring some stupid cut-off low at the end of the month mucking things up.

wisconsinwx
I remember reading in last year's winter thread that a mild October and early November tends to signal a harsh, snowier winter. Given the mild way October looks to come in, bring it on!
River Card
I remember reading in last year's winter thread that a mild October and early November tends to signal a harsh, snowier winter. Given the mild way October looks to come in, bring it on! Theres a lot of credence to that statement...the last couple of winters have been exactly like that and then bam winter set in and stuck around. Gotta think the same is in store yet again this season. Nothing beats a nice mild October though and the crisp comfy nights...favorite month of the year. Stebo
Personally at this point I think most of the region will experience a drier/milder October compared to average, although I could see us easily flipping into cooler/wetter and in some places whiter pattern in the last week of the month. snowstormcanuck
One positive about the dry pattern we're heading into, aside from the correlation between mild/dry Octobers and cold/snowy winters, is that the massive ridge along the east coast would direct any tropical disturbances to travel into the caribbean/gulf and hopefully at somepoint into the MS/OH valleys. Chicago Storm
It made it down to 38 here this morning. This is the first sub-40 temp since May 17th (39) and the coldest temp since May 5th (36).

Chicago WX
I'll take 77 if that suits you better. 70's are fine right now, especially after the dismal weather recently. 80's in October=90's in summer to me. I had enough of that this summer.
