Warm and dry.

Closing in on 1/2 inch of rain. Now over 4" for the month.

During the last 13 years, only 4 Octobers (not including 2011) here have had >2.50" of rain. And each of the corresponding winters were disasters. One (1999-2000) was a Nina.

Just kidding Mike. And boo to that stat you posted above. Time for that to reverse course.

No prob. I was going to self-troll myself for that in a couple of days anyways.

Small sample size wrt those stats. And even if the sample size was larger, it may be hard to find an actual causal link (one Nina, one Neutral, two Ninos).

Same here. Just browsing the top ten wettest Octobers, most except for 2006/07 winter sucked here. Hopefully a mere coincidence than actual causation.

I may be wrong but I don't think we've had a frost yet here in NW Ohio which is almost unbelievable. I remember in golf whenever we had an early morning tournament we'd have to wait for the frost to clear almost everytime in October

Here in Milwaukee we have yet to have a frost either. It's very torturous for me b/c there have been 3 or 4 times when we were really close and even had frost advisories, yet just can't get it done near the lake. Allergies in late October sucks.

I think the heavy rains of fall and very wet soils may be a contributing factor this year.

That is remarkable. It does look like you guys will snap that this week though.

Hmm that depends. If you go back to 1900-present then you get a different story, Looking at Octobers that featured >3.2" or >80mm we get this;

1905-06: 30.2"

1906-07: 47.7"

1911-12: 76.5"

1916-17: 55.4"

1917-18: 71.5"

1920-21: 43"

1921-22: 47.7"

1941-42: 35.3"

1946-47: 67.7"

1950-51: 52.8"

1955-56: 68.4"

1959-60: 83.1"

1965-66: 56.6"

1970-71: 74"

1972-73: 45.1"

1973-74: 53.1"

1981-82: 62.6"

1983-84: 65.7"

1989-90: 49.8"

1990-91: 41"

1995-96: 56.2"

2001-02: 28.1"

2006-07: 23.7"

avg: 54" (Normal: 47" to 52")

Above, bolded are La Nina Years with 1955-56, 1970-71 and 1917-18 being in the list given that there favorable analogues for this Winter season :)
