meteorologist
From: "Dr. Louis Uccellini" To: "Donald Cc: "B. Kyger" <[email protected]>; "Allan Darling" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: fyi Date: Monday, September 19, 2011 9:44 AM Don: Thanks for sending this, which I have forwarded to NCO for them to offer a thoughtful and complete reply. I also want to encourage people to send specific complaints and/or suggestions as we are planning a quarterly upgrade for the MAG as was done recently based on the first wave of user comments (during the prolonged transition period). I need to note that I too had a problem going from one familiar system (which I helped design) to the new system, and I actually forced an extended transition period based on comments I got (personally) from several "old timers". But with some of the recent changes to the MAG and my use of the system during the past hurricane season I have come around, especially with the looping capability for the various domains being offered (that weren't available with the old MAF system). I should also note that the old system was not efficient and was using up to 1% of the central computer system that (because of budget decisions that were completely out of my control) will be replaced 1+ years later than originally planned. The central computer is now so full that implementations are being affected (and 1% matters!). With the implementation of the MAG, we also have reduced communication charges by 30 or more percent with the new system, saving large amounts of money during a period when every expenditure is being scrutinized. From these points alone, we have to make this work, and I am committed to do so. So get the complaints and suggestions to the NCO page noted on the front end of the page (and/or to me) and we (or I) will make sure they are addressed. Feel free to share this email as you see fit. okie333
So they made the new page crappy to reduce traffic or what? :-p Given that it's Javascript, which reduces the amount of communication needed to the server, yes, that appears to be the case.
