Chicago WX Posted September 19, 2011 Share Posted September 19, 2011 I was nosing around the NCDC site, looking for summer temp stats, and came across some neat graphs and such. First, average temperatures for summer for the state of Indiana since 1895. 2011, while being a hot one, only ranked as the 20th warmest. Last summer was the 6th warmest on record. 1930 to 1944 was the longest run of consecutive warmer than normal summers. 1960 to 1972, save for 1968, was a "long run" of cool summers. Warmest Summers 76.9º - 1936 76.8º - 1934 75.8º - 1901 and 1921 75.6º - 1983 75.5º - 2010 Coolest Summers 68.9º - 1992 69.0º - 1915 70.1º - 2004 70.3º - 1903, 1950, and 1967 70.4º - 1982 and 2009 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Granted some of that is due to the really warm period about 70-80 years ago. This is really more of a climate topic (albeit local) but hopefully we can avoid the nastiness here. Well the reverse is true for winter and spring in Indiana. Fall is pretty much neutral. 1895-2011 trend: Winter: +0.06º/decade Spring: +0.10º/decade Fall: -0.01º/decade But yeah, I didn't intend this to be a GW thing. I sent you the link, but you can change the time periods to fit any "trend" really. For instance if you do winters 1981-2011, using 1981-10 as the base period, they're trending cooler. Of course the past 3 have been cooler than normal...and there's some mighty warm winters in that period. Anyway, pretty interesting stuff to me.
