Nah, doesn't matter. Too many hot dogs get posted there. Worst subforum on the site.

Stop it. Your picking the wrong bone to pick in here. Or should I say I think most in on the forum respect/seek the good info/expertise that comes out of your sub-forum. At least I venture over on a daily basis. As for the haters, well that's their problem. ;)

Oh I wasn't accusing anyone here of saying that. I was making light hyperbole because I knew nobody in here said that. Its those evil Mid-Atlantic posters that think we are by far the worst forum. They cite hot dogs and Mica Vim Toot (who hardly ever posts anyway) as reasons why. But I suppose its in their nature to always focus on the negatives rather than the positives (most met posts of any subforum and its not close) since the snow events fail so often there. Maybe its a psychological thing. :guitar:

I actually like most subforums on here...but I guess I'm just the optimists and choose to pick through the uneventful posts.

Oh I read you loud and clear. ;)

Like you I enjoy most of the sub-forums, but when we venture into OT and the like...well the claws come out from some. Ah, the Mid-Atlantic they had theirs in 09-10...why all the hate from them? :devilsmiley:

I cannot stand regionalism but that region has the biggest group of chronic complainers in OT by far. I've always said you make your own bed here. I love the MA forum anyway though....I have some great interaction with zwyts there who is the best non-poster in that forum.

I think this forum is top notch too...hardly ever get complaints out of the central/western forum. In fact, statistically its the New England and central/west forums that have the least number of reports in the report center since we moved to AmericanWx.

EVERY sub forum has it's +/-. Personally i have no problem with the discussions etc in your sub forum. Besides here i visit mostly your sub forum ( already covered why ) and then the Mid Atlantic and Philly simply because i lived there and still have a interest in the wx there.

Yes, regionalism is lame...but I guess it goes with the territory unfortunately. Always has been there since the days of WWBB...

We have a good group here. Sure, there's a few bad posters from time to time...but they're definitely in the minority. Of course it's an ever expanding brand in this sub-forum, one which I hope continues to grow and get better. Which I believe it will. Same goes for the Plains/Western core.

The bolded! Agree 100%. I do MISS the discussions between us all ( Matt/You/etc ) in the main wx forum. I wont lie about that.

It was definitely my fault. I apologize.

I think most people have an idea of how they want to split this up though by now.

I think we love to declare convesations resolved after like a day.. More ideas is good.

Sample size is more important than time...but you are right, its good to think it out. We have a natural tendency to want to rush things that are going to be changed at some point. But there's a pretty large sample building here and its converging on the same general lines.

I'd think we'd rather not split CWAs

I think it could work. Though I guess you could make a case for including the ARX CWA. Actual weather patterns/results plus not trying to split up CWAs kind of plays into my map...despite its "goofy" looks.

"ARX included" map.

Agree but it might be unavoidable. Some of them cover huge areas. The Twin Cities goes from the SD/MN border all the way into Wisconsin.

I think everyone agrees that the offices in the lakes area don't always *appear* to have collaborated well on their winter weather products (weather they do or not). Sometimes having CWAs that are donut holed with a lesser product than the surrounding area. With that said, it could cause some problems if we split CWA's with the WSW/WWA whiners in full force. Maybe not anything more than you would see anyway, but possibly.

I think with this being a weather forum, the best bet would be to stick with CWAs as much as possible, except where they cross an existing subforum to the S or E.

Do we have many southern IL posters?

If not, we could send St. Louis CWA to the news western forum, Paducah's CWA to the Southeast (that's going out on a limb, I know) then keeping everything else east of I-35 in the new GL subforum, including QC, MSP and Dulth's CWA

Beau, Friv, hamps and uk.

The problem with that is the climate in the Paducah CWA is more similar to say S. Indiana than it is to the Plains (TX/OK/KS/etc).

Fair enough.

So the major problem is that it would be detrimental to keep both MSP and STL in GL subforum, but we don't want to split CWA's either?

What if we split MSP's CWA along the MN/WI border, then kept La Crosse, QC, STL, PAH and points east in the GL subforum. That would keep MSP in the new western forum, but hopefully not split their metropolitan area too much since I believe somebody said most MSP people live in MN.

Going back to the topic of where to split up the MW/Lakes/OV section versus the Plains/West, here's the google member map that msp created back on EUSWX. It may not represent all of the members of this forum (some may not be on there), but my maps that I posted would probably work if you go by the locations of posters on this map.

FWIW, which isn't much, I voted undecided. Reasoning being I kind of want it both ways, everyone together but yet still somewhat separated. Plus how it would be split up would be a big question mark/arguing point. I guess I'd lean keep the status quo right now, because I do like reading the Plains/West/etc threads. Maybe we could try separate smaller regional threads for this upcoming winter. Kind of a dip the toes in the water kind of deal. Don't know...just throwing stuff at the wall...

a mini trial like this before a big split would seem like a reasonable action to begin with.

I like the whole state approach - OH, IN, MI, IL, WI and I think KY.

I think it would be better to keep MN and MO in their entirety in the west.

The net effect is to make the subforum dividing line mainly the MS River, which is a "natural" dividing line.

I think it is a bad idea to split the STL metro (or really any metropolitan area like that), as the frustration in clicking between two subforums would probably drive STL posters away after a while.

This region has exploded in membership over the last year, so I definitely do see a need for something of a Great Lakes/Midwest or Great Lakes/OV subforum. Rather than drawing specific lines like the farmers almanac or something, just perhaps breakup a little more simply than "Central/Western", maybe something like "Midwest", "Plains/Central" and "West". Everyone would find their way into the forum that best suits them, sort of naturally instead of looking at actual boundaries (for instance the one map that went by state had MI with a big empty spot for OH, that to me seems silly to not have at LEAST the west half of OH in the same area as MI). Plus its not as if you are confined to your subforum. Many people can and do browse other forums, even if they dont post often in them. Also to the mods, remember, no matter WHAT decision you make, SOME will not be happy, but with the size of amwx you really cant reasonably expect anything less.
