Agree but it might be unavoidable. Some of them cover huge areas. The Twin Cities goes from the SD/MN border all the way into Wisconsin.

How many though live in the WI part? Very few if any live in/near that border ( to my knowledge ) on that 1st map he posted. 2nd map brings in problems with the MN crew being split etc.

Not many as far as I know. I believe NW WI is void of any members. As for ARX, it was pretty much only frankthetank (for the WI portion), but he vanished once he got 5-posted.

My view...

Those people in the "sliver areas" of MN, KS, and TN are gonna be pissed. :P

Ahh.. Did not know ( or forgot )he got zapped here. But yeah it is the MN part of ARX that is the problem. Trying to recall who they were that lived there? So yeah i think the 1st map serves all interests the best as it avoids any issue. Probably not good anyways to divide near a major metro which ARX does thanks to MSP.

Funny how NW PA and WNY are technically in the "Lakes" but have always had their own subforum or regional thread. I guess that's what mountains of LES will do for you.

From that view the Great Lakes is both those lakes regions. But yeah that would be too small of a area. Being in a LES zone i do admit i miss some of the input from those guys in the Buffalo/W.NY area. They always had some awesome discussions as far as LES goes. Usually what works for them as well works for here.

I know we had a poster from Rochester, MN at Eastern...but not sure if he registered here. Other than that, I can't think of anyone else (for the ARX CWA).

It's a good point. Your part of MI, NE OH are snowbelt areas as well, yet we all find a way to get along without having the need to segregate you LES boys into your own forum. The difference I think is that synoptically WNY/NWPA are deserts. I believe Steve McLaughlin of the NWS in BUF said something like 2/3-3/4 of the snow they receive in a given winter is LES. Synoptic storms either miss them just to the NW (Cutter) or to the E (Nor'easter).

I think it could work. Though I guess you could make a case for including the ARX CWA. Actual weather patterns/results plus not trying to split up CWAs kind of plays into my map...despite its "goofy" looks.

"ARX included" map.

I really like this one. The only concern would be the snowbelt across northern WI as they get a ton of LES in the Gogebic region.

I like that map a lot. It makes sense. While the snowbelts would be a problem in NW WI, as you mention, I don't think we have a single member in that area.

Yep, I think we're clear of any membership in that area.

And Gogebic region...yeah I'm going to have to look that one up.

Which one? 1st or the 2nd? Other then the one or 2 ( IF they made it here ) from Rochester area i doubt either will be a problem for most. They will probably end up posting with the MSP crew anyways. :)

We actually had a couple for a short while in that part of WI ( snowbelts ) but it was school related. But yeah not a soul up there as of now to my knowledge.

The information is pretty sparse, but here is a good view of it on googlemaps. It is the area of higher terrain and very old mountain ranges. One particular hotspot is Hurley, WI. They get crushed quite often with big LES storms in N-NW flow. The terrain influence is pretty significant and you will often see Ashland getting nothing with feet of snow falling in the higher terrain 800-1000 feet up. http://maps.google.c...=p&z=10&vpsrc=6

It was the map of the CWA's that Chiwx posted with the bulge into WI.

It is unfortunate we don't have any members up there in that area. There are some decent pop centers up there, and they have killer LES and great scenery. The obs are very sparse up there too. I know a guy on tv weather in that vicinity, I may try and recruit him.

FWIW here's the idea I talked about earlier. Just throw MN, IA, and MO into both of the sub-forums. This way the folks in the border states can post in either one that fits the situation, and should keep most members happy...

If i recall some of the Ohio crew did a similar thing and posted with the guys from Pittsburgh for a while back on eastern. That is one of the few areas where a office is broke up and thus see the Pittsburgh office that goes into Ohio.

but meh.. I like Tims maps. They need a decent starting point for growth out west and his gives them that.

Cool, thanks. I never knew it was called that/or had that name. We used to go snowmobiling every winter up in the Northwoods (Hurley, St. Germain, Eagle River, U.P., etc). Well that was back in my early-mid 20's, but had some awesome times up there. Good drinks, good "entertainment". ;)

K. Map 1.

Yeah the two that were there briefly had some nice pics/obs. They were in Ashland?? if i recall correctly? Interesting area for sure as far as wx goes and the lake scenery. One of them i believe was from the Mid Atlantic? Maybe someone else can recall the names? Would have been great to have someone in that area last year during the Oct bomb. Kinda sad but outside the MKE and Chicago crew we really don't get many who are on the lake shore of any of the lakes. I love seeing towering waves etc which i know you get especially on Superior.
