It sure will screw up the fishing. This year we had fewer Spanish Mackeral than usual. Plenty of Blues but I think this will drive them out of the bay. I'm not sure about stripers as they can handle fesh water but I doubt that they will like all the sediment. In the Potomac, it will take awhile for the bass fishing to recover, at least a couple of weeks. Even then, high water usually means the fish spread out an become harder to locate.

Here's the Maryland DNT site that has salinity and turbidity. Unfortuately much of the data is not recorded until it is tested in a lab. You click on the location and it will ask you what you want to see. I did find one location near the mouth of the PAx river that had very little salt content in sept and May.

A friend sent me this about the salinity. The heavy spring rains had already lowered the salinity.

There is and has been a very strong salinity contrast this year..long before we had the 20 inches of rain dumped on us. Low salinity in our waters is never good for fishing, although we had good spot fishing. No Spanish, few blues and I dont know whats going to happen with the rock. Will we get ocean run rock later this fall? You could taste it. When we were in the water back in July cleaning the boat bottoms I could tell that the creek didnt taste right, It should have been salty and it wasnt.

AND...look at the junk coming down the bay and river to us. This could be as damaging as Agnes. after Agnes no oysters, no bay grass for years

Thanks Wes, not good not good at all. excellent links. Folks understand the floods when its their house etc. but not many understand the long term effects on the environment. Runoff due to urbanization has really added to this. Hopefully you get some good winter mixing driving the ocean up the bay to help flush it.

A Potomac guide just posted something on the river and claims the creeks in the tidal section have cleared pretty well and that they are catching lots of fish. I never trust a guide's fishing report unless I know him as a friend but suspect his statements concerning the water clarity are correct.

U need to consider the source of the reports plus the fact that this is the worst economy since the 1930s.

These guides are struggling to put food on the table just like everyone else.
