Brutal mugginess, no yard work for a while with everything soaked. Watching football with a fan on just is not the same.

I mowed yesterday afternoon. With this wx..the lawn is as lush and green as springtime..esp after a LEsco app. a few weeks ago. Neighbors were walking/stopping by raving about how good it looks. Somewhere in there is my wedding ring. Borrowed a metal detector from a CO at Enfield prison I know..and nada. It beeped in 3 diofferent spots,, but nothing turned up except coins

Back from NOLA. That's a place I have no desire to revisit.

Driving back from BDL at 2:30p.m. yesterday. Tenmp reports from the trip home via truck thermometer:

80 at BDL

82 as I headed through Enfiled/Long Meadow

81 when I got to NOHO

79 at Greenfield

72 at the Pit

My Home Depot special thermometer has apparently died, so I have no idea how things are this morning.

Much less vibrant than usual this year in Franklin County. Dry summer FTL.

Lots of geese--signs of fall continue.

It has been muted, we certainly didn't have a dry Summer here and I'd be surprised if Franklin county wasn't above normal for the June/July/August period. I have noticed some very vibrant colors but the general backdrop of the hills is a little more brown than fiery red and orange. Tons of leaves are already down. It won't be long until the first snow is hissing as it hits dry leaves. Can't wait.

All the storms passed us to the north or south of FC. While we might have been above normal for the three months due to rains from Irene at the end of August, that's meaningless when looking at the three month period. A great example of an accurate stat that suggests a situation that was far from the reality. The damage from the dryness had taken place well before the late rains could have an impact on the foliage here.

We were a touch dry for a while this summer too--3.87" in May, 4.23" in June and only 2.28" for July....in my rain bucket, that is.

And then, an Irene enhanced 11.87" for August. Bam!

July was getting very dry around here for a while--wilty leaves, dusty roads and wells running low. And then the deluges came leading to an odd summer, rainfall wise. Colors are a little muted here but starting to really light up in the elevated hollows where there've been a couple frosts so far...

June was nearly a record setting rainfall month. You had a period from mid July-early Aug where you missed some storms but there was no drought.

I'm expecting things will be light on the reds/oranges. I'm predicting we'll have mostly yellows going to brown.

Right after the first frost here the colors did seem to pop a bit.

I never said we were in a drought; if that was suggested, it was unintended. What I did say was that it was a dry season that will inhibit the opportunities for a great foliage season. Looking across the hills, I see a sea of emerging yellow--some oranges. Ii think we'll be hard-pressed here to get much better this year.

No question.

I'll go out and snap a pic--but there's a hollow across the way from us that is all lit up now and the ridgeline above it, not so much. The hollow sits at 1100' or so and has had frost whereas the ridge goes up to 2000' and hasn't.

I'm expecting green to brown. It's been pretty wet over the last month, and that kills the foliage colors for whatever reason. I've heard cool and dry produces the best colors, and obviously it has been anything but that over the last month.

LOL..When MPM and MRG are involved in a lover's quarrel..you know the September torch has gotten to everyone

Nice try. The weather has been fine, a little to much rain but temps have been comfortable. I don't think that the mid-summer dryspell has any effect on the fall colors.

Give the leaves some time guys. Sure, it may not end up the best foliage season ever, but we had the same brown/yellow deal up until 3-4 days ago. Now the vibrant oranges/reds are slowly taking off. We don't even normally peak until mid Oct anyways and then you guys peak a week or so after that.

MRG peaked in late August though

Columbus Day weekend is the traditional peak here.
