Ticking Down the Days

I was at my buddies house in Duxbury during that night. I just remember sitting around a fire outside having a couple of beers (well more like many beers), and thinking holy crap it's cold..lol.

That was right after that major severe wx outbreak...was a pretty strong front but the cold air lagged a few days behind it.

Temp now 44--I guess I floored out at 43. No frost advisory for MBY. Bring your plants to the Pit--they'll be fine.

LOL, you crack me up sometimes. You show your displeasure with the warmer temps in passive aggressive statements like the one highlighted. You will soon enough be cold as a witches teet, and snowing like a mofo. MVY might be colder than you tonight, but you'll probably get 50" more of snow than them.

I'm just saying how it is. If there's any consolation, I think it will be that there's a second reading here at this piont to support the warm overnights/cool days the Davis prsented day in an day out. And while the snow will find its way here, it will always be within the context of a milder overnight and a cooler day than most. But what the hell--I'll take a walk outside and see how things are down the hill in back. Probably upper 30's. lol

36/34, nice and cold

Impressive. I noticed colder temps down in central/southern VT... wonder if there was more clearing down that way. Low here was 39F but orographic clouds have kept us from falling further. Never cleared out and now we've got thick clouds and 43F. Saw periods of upslope drizzle into the night last night... good ol' sheet mist/drizzle from small droplets forming in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Summit of Mansfield is now at 32F so I'm hoping this upslope junk can clear out so I can see if there is any rime on the ridgeline. I'll lose it if I see that thing whitened up.

MWN down to 23F now.

We've gone through the awful Summer months and are now on the cusp of Nirvana.

I have a similar thing with living in the city. While it's not urban where I am...I'm within the city limits and slightly elevated enough above the Neponset River. I can go 2-3 miles away and it's like another world. The difference was noticeable with the snowpack last winter. Nights that only got down to 36 instead of 32 made a difference between the suburbs and city.

Don't know if I'll make it by Midnight so I can claim a direct hit on my first freeze/frost guess. Looks like I'll miss it by several hours. To think Kevin mocked me,lol.

Just got in from a walk out back. As I was going along, I could smell a dead animal--smell got really strong. I knew there had to be something of size. I was looking in the overgrowth that runs along the field wall (one of my ongoing tasks is to clear out the wall) figuring I had to be able to find something. As I walked back up on the other side of the wall, the smell was even stronger. I couldn't find anything, but then I noticed what looked like a branch that was not really near a tree. I walked over and it was a leg about the length of my own. Still had some meat on it--guess the coyotes have been having a go at it. I'm guessing it's a cow.....gnarly smell and sight before breakfast.

No--I'm sure the cow was from across the street and died there. Pete (the farmer) owns all the land surrounding the Pit and he uses an area beyond the back of our property as the boneyard. It's kind of funny seeing him drive a front-loader down across the field with legs sticking up from the bucket. lol

Usually, he buries them deep into the woods, but it looks like this one might not have gone as deep as he's historically done.

Interesting. They probably just dug it up then if it was shallow. I thought for a minute it might have been one of Pete's friends that left a body there....you know, the ones that own the school bus with Ray's buick there.

Lol! I'm sure the other pieces are getting eaten too. When I was checking the lightning strike yesterday, I came across a coyote. It did look pretty well fed.

Is that your thermometer?

Yep, just telling JD that its so early in the year, the saltwater marsh out back really had an influence last night. Water temps are very warm, I usually radiate very well here being in a low lying spot. I frosted before Kevin last year, we will see what happens tonight..........regardless the next week is just beautiful, congrats to Pete!

That might be a little premature......a sweater/fleece perhaps.....

I'm sitting in my bedroom with my Red Sox PJ's on and a sweatshirt with my hood up and I'm shivering. I'd take my shower but I'm not sure if I am going to go back to sleep at all. I'm in another one of my horrible sleep phases where either I stay up all night and go to sleep around 9 AM and then wake up around 5 PM, or I go to bed around 1 AM and then wake up around 4 AM...I was really exhausted last night and went to bed around 1 AM, thinking I actually may be able to sleep today...nope, was up at 5:00 AM.
