aslkahuna
Region 1283 has produced 4 major flares during the past 72 hours-a M5, X2, X1 and today a M6. CMEs have been observed from the first three and although most of the CME was observed to move north of the ecliptic plane, CME impacts in the near Earth Space Environment this weekend could cause a Geomagnetic disturbance. At this time, generally Category G1 (K=5) or maybe G2 (K=6) activity is possible-most likely the former. However, at this time of year, that could result in visual aurora for those living poleward of 45 degrees latitude of the northern tier of states in the US. aslkahuna
A Geomagnetic storm is in progress with 3 hr ap/Kp values of 56/5+ or Cat 1. Earlier the storm peaked at 132/7Z but any aurora would have been visible in Europe and Russia only. If storming continues and increases then visual aurora may be visible in the northern tier states.
