eyewall
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/rah/news/content/SecondWarmestSummerOnRecord.pdf The meteorological summer of 2011, which is defined as the three month period of June-July-August(JJA) was the second warmest at both Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU) and Piedmont Triad Airport (GSO). The 2011 JJA mean temperatures at RDU and GSO were 81.2 F and 79.4 F, respectively. The warmest summer occurred just last year, in 2010 where the mean temperatures at RDU and GSO were 81.6 F and 80.1F. The RDU and GSO temperature graphs below show the extent of the above normal temperatures during JJA. Figure 1. RDU 2011 Temperature Graph Figure 2. FoothillsNC
We knew that was coming. I think the same might be true for Columbia, Atlanta. Overall, the Southeast had back to back HOT Summers. For my area, it was not quite as hot as you guys, and nowhere near last Summer, so I doubt it will place second here, but would be a top 10 I think. Jon
You're telling me. My car has no air conditioning... made it this far, can't wait until fall/winter...tired of arriving to school/work sweaty, only to get even more sweaty walking through campus. Also, several times I've noticed on the max temp plot on RAH's site, the bulls eye of heat falls along the Wake Co./Durham Co. line right at RDU. I look at that quite randomly, usually after a scortching day. It would be interesting to know on average where the hottest point in NC is...can that be found realistically?
