Looks like that line on satellite earlier was a true dry line. Nothing significant will cross that line but the rain is rapidly spreading and growing to the East. Original call was for HGR to be on the action and I'm not sure they even got a raindrop today. One thing for certain, the models flunked this event. What happened today and yesterday was forecast to be over the mountains and they haven't seen anything. 100% wrong.

it was not a surface dry line. it was a mid-lvl punch of drier air. you could see it on wv earlier.. havent looked recently. this is all about proximity to the front.

yeah makses sense. im on the fringe tho we got decent rain last hr. really almost the exact same thing happened yesterday just fewer people live in the area to the east.some places s of dc have cashed in on both.radar's becoming more filled in but interesting to track the various directions the bands have thrown moisture in last few days.

This is whole setup is crazy. We had some heavy rains up here this morning...some thunder with 2-5" or so. Kind of unexpected, but models did put out QPF....just nothing like what fell. It's always scary to see upper level lows stalled in place with some sort of remnant tropical low....or perhaps just tropical airmass in place. You know someone will flood...but where the band sets up is hard to predict. WHen you see a model like the GFS spit out 5" in 6hrs....that's bad news.

This is probably a good time for tower/monument lightning hunting in DC. Were getting more of a stratiform rain with occasional loud bursts of lighting. Usually this kind of activity is behind a big squall line.
