real
dc apocoflood fail If you would do a bit of basic research before you speak, you would know parts of 395, the Capitol Beltway, and numerous other roads are closed due to flash flooding, including the 9th Street Tunnel. BethesdaWX
I don't see the issue with referring to it as "heat lightning" or "sheet lightning." We all know what it refers to, so why jump on the guy's back for it? From NOAA's "Questions and Answers about Lightning": according to H20 heat lightning doesnt exist, NOAA is wrong
North Balti Zen
I hear that it is raining in downtown Balt now. Can anyone confirm? No. No rain. There is a waterfall from the sky though...hey, wait...
Kmlwx
according to H20 heat lightning doesnt exist, NOAA is wrong It doesn't. It's just a term some people use and because NWS is geared towards the general public they said it's SOMETIMES referred to as that. Doesn't mean it's correct. Kmlwx
The term exists to describe lightning too far away to hear thunder, Yes but not officially - it exists because the lay people and general public named it that. The term heat lightning doesn't make sense. Distant lightning is a far better term.
chris87
The term exists to describe lightning too far away to hear thunder, drop it...you were wrong...and as an aspiring scientist I suggest you start referring to things that rooted in reality....and not a misunderstanding by the general public.
