You do realize that heat lightning is just regular lightning... no reason to call it anything other than lightning. Some enthusiasts (like myself) find "heat lightning" to be an irritating misnomer.

I do, and I'm pretty certain anyone who frequents a weather forum does. I just think people are too quick to jump down others' throats, especially certain others. That's all.

Not quite. Just cracked 2" overnight in Frederick and that goes back to Saturday night. I believe there are two jackpots...S & E of a Charlottesville/IAD/BWI line and NW of I-81. In between has had lots of light rain (which helps) but we're still in a drought. :(

It's hard to complain when you've had 2 - 3 inches of soaking rain over a 3 day period, almost 3 days w/o that damn infernal sun, and a high temp of 59 (yesterday), but to this point it has not been the 4 - 8 inches of flooding rains as advertised. Indeed, the areas west of the blue ridge were advertised to be the jackpot zone, but it appears from radar that once again the I-95corridor, and central PA, will max out. Personally, if we can just keep the sun at bay for the rest of the day, and keep the temps below 70, I'd be ecstatic with this event.

Maybe just radar hallucinations, but the batch approaching Richmond does look to have a more westerly component than the streamer aimed at DC proper.

trough should be going more neg tilt now, was still pretty close to neutral this morning.

I was thiking the same thing a few minutes ago. It's one of the reasons I'm not upset that this current DC-south batch is just missing my house to the east. Looks like we'll have enough to account for in a couple hours.

Pouring at work in PG now.

Sorry, for as much crap BB talks about knowing his "stuff", he sure doesn't post like he does.

This is true. I was hoping a 4-8" type event would wipe out the deficit from the past 5 months after the wet spring. Then again, we are approaching fall so a good 2" into the ground won't evaporate as much. I will say, my plants look the best and happiest all season. I had to reseed half the lawn this weekend cause the drought killed it. Those seeds should sprout quick with these soaking rains!
