Yes but not officially - it exists because the lay people and general public named it that. The term heat lightning doesn't make sense. Distant lightning is a far better term.

drop it...you were wrong...and as an aspiring scientist I suggest you start referring to things that rooted in reality....and not a misunderstanding by the general public.
