Pics from inside my buddies one house. Been helping him gut it the past few days. Had about 6ft inside the first floor with another 8ft in the basement.

Is that the water line on the upper kitchen cabinets? You're a good friend for helping those in need. Sometimes, oftentimes, all people want is a helping hand cleaning up. Just that progress in ridding the house of the damage can lift the spirit.

yes, but curtains wick. I can't imagine having to gut my house.

I think the worst part is the smell. Its awful. Just a nasty, foul creek/garbage odor.

We are kind of hoping the insurance adjuster just declares it condemned. With not much help, we are running out of gas.

Spent more time today sitting on buckets, than actually putting wet drywall in them.

Tired of talking flooding. So lets take bets on the lowest temp in this "cool spell" this weekend.

I'll go with KFIG with a low 37 Fri night/Sat morning.

KBFD 30°F Fri night. I'm really hoping for my first freeze this week. It would really help the debate on our freezes getting pushed back weeks due to global warming.

My thought was wet ground might hold temps up some.

And hush, Potter. I still have watermelons and other things I want to get to maturity in my garden before frost. yikes.png

No fair Hcky - i was going with that same reading for Friday/Sat - you took my guess. Therefore, I'll just agree. Although KMDT shows 46, I always subtract 5-8F from my reading. If you force me to make another choice, I'd go with 38F for KFIG (KFIG is actually the closest to my observed more often than KMDT - I suppose because we're both in the hill and valley region to the north of Hbg whereas KMDT is south of Hbg.) KFIG is always closest in the precip dept. because I'm about due west of there.

Hmmm - Interesting theory, in that moisture, generally, can increase with temperature and dryness generally equates to coolness. I'm not sure it will hold out though as the air is far more in volume than the surface. I allways thought that moisture is more dependant on temperature than temperature is on moisture.

Even in winter, the cooling affect of snow cover is only so much of a factor unless its a pile of snow over a very large area.

But ,hey, I could be wrong.

AND one last thing about clean-up. Carlisle area Home Depot sent a team of volunteers who were helping Hbg residents clean up. Damned good job there HD, I knoow the residents appreicated it very much.

Hcky very sorry to hear about Mr. Geib..my thoughts and prayers to his family. On a side note, where do you attend races at???

Thanks. smile.gif

I mostly go to the local tracks down this way but I have ventured about as far North as Port Royal. Lindas, Lanco, Big Diamond and The Grove are the four major ones I go to.

Would be nice.

If I drop into the mid 40's, I would be roughly 8-10 degrees below the new normal. Into the high 30's would be close to 15 degrees below normal.

Holy global cooling batman.

I did find this, pretty good explanation:

Dry soil- There will not be much evaporation into the air when soils are dry. Dry soil reduces the chance of fog developing. Fog will greatly limit the amount of cooling that could occur. Even without fog, the evaporating moisture will not let as much longwave energy escape. It is ideal for it not to have rained for the past several days and for the soil to have a lack of moisture emitting vegetation.

Thanks. I'm alright. His wife is being very strong.

I'm sorry for the losses :( . Just because I like extreme weather events, I in no way wish harm on others, I don't want people thinking I'm all about hell death and destruction.

In weather news, the NWS seemed to up the night fall temps for the cool snap coming up, the GFS has also trended warmer as Jamie has alluded to. I just had a nice little thunderstorm roll through, didn't bring much rain though.

lol at the long range GFS about 300hrs, lake effect showers with a deep trough droping down from Canada with some areas receiving lake effect snow showers in the higher elevations. That would be insane if it ended up turning to reality. Its not to often you see snow showers at the end of September let alone the middle of the month. :arrowhead:

Oh man, in 1989 when I went to school in Pittsburgh I volunteered for the Pittsburgh Great Race. Sept 23 was the date: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/pbz/tsnow.htm#EARLIEST

I saw that trace of snow, it happened during the am. That was craziness.

This is a bit OT, but beside the modeled trough in our region, look at the giant modeled ridge in the west.

The modeled +20C temps cover an area from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to southern Alberta. LOL

I don't look at the the models much in the summer, but I can't remember ever seeing that.

these figures are astonding so far, they will only get worse!

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Preliminary damage estimates obtained by abc27 News indicate that at least 346 homes, apartment buildings and businesses in south central Pennsylvania were destroyed in the flooding brought by Tropical Storm Lee, while more than 1,700 others sustained major damage.

The numbers were obtained in a survey of county emergency management agencies.

Dauphin County officials reported that damage to homes has reached an estimated $128 million with 60 percent of assessments completed. More than 200 single-family and mobile homes were destroyed in the disaster, as well as seven businesses and 15 multi-family homes.

More than 900 homes have major damage, generally indicating that floodwater came above the first floor, while more than 1,100 have minor damage from problems such as flooded basements.

Seven businesses in the county were destroyed and 58 have major damage.

In Cumberland County, no homes were destroyed, but 106 homes have major damage, most of them in New Cumberland and East Pennsboro Township. New Cumberland reported that 20 businesses have major damage.

Lancaster County officials said 30 single-family and mobile homes and three businesses were destroyed, while 385 have major damage.

York County reported that its preliminary figures show 19 homes and businesses were destroyed by the high water, and 156 sustained major damage.

Officials in Perry County said damage has reached $1.8 million across the county and has topped $1 million in Duncannon alone.

Figures from Lebanon County were not available Wednesday.

That 7 businesses has to be higher - I can count 14 off the top of my head that have been destroyed (they'll be rebuilt or in some cases like a few restaurants in Harrisburg completely relocated).
