I certainly can't speak for Hershey, but do you really think they anticpated the water rising that much that fast? I don't think anyone did. Look, the swatara creek is a record level, look at the photos of hershey and Hummelstown. come on guys, to think they don't have an emergency/contingency plan for the animals or anything else at hershey is crazy.

AS an emergency responder, I'm sure you realize that any e/c plan is only as good as the call to actually implement it. Built into any such plan MUST be an honest analysis of when to place the logistics into action to pull off the plan.

No, it wasn't obvious WELL in advance. But the situation was forewarned. Even my forecast to my small crowd - as of two days ago, warned anyone in any area that sees moderate flooding, to take action. C'mon they opened at 10:00 a.m.!! The potential was certainly obvious by then (before IMHO).

So no one's saying there was no plan - it just was not very well, nor very timely implemented - that = plan fail in my book.

You could be correct on the who, what or when the plan was activated. I really was repling to the "not having the logistical resources to move them" comment.

Do you work for Hershey? i only ask because of your comment above.

Yes - I didn't word that very well, I suppose. And as I said in a later post - I'm sure the actual workers are devastated. I did not mean to disparage any except those responsible for making the call to implement in time. Perhaps that seems harsh - but it is honest and hopefully a lesson well learned for all involved.

Back to weather - looks like the main bands are slowly drifting east (snail pace though). I don't expect AHPS to up the ante any more - but then again, I said that same thing yesterday and was WRONG.

Well, i would say thats typical of most of us who post here. try and pass along good weather related info to co-workers etc and they never pay attention until **** is hitting the fan.

I will agree with you if thats the case and the call was made to late, the plan is no good unless someone pulls the trigger and implements it. Somebody will have to answer for that i would assume. The media was all over it.

On the Zoo America thing, WGAL quotes 2 bison had to be put down and "other animals at the zoo were moved to higher ground". With rumors rampant, I guess the true extent of what's happened will have to wait.

But back to the main event, this is absolutely unbelievable. And the radar looks like at least another 6+ hours to go for Lancaster. My work closed for the first time in forever. The plant was even open during the blizzard(s)! Anyone have a storm total for western Lancaster County?

I'm on my phone -can anyone pull today's rain total and event total for MDT please?

Per Weather Underground for KMDT -

Sunday - 1.33"

Monday - 1.32"

Tuesday - 2.02"

Wednesday - 7.71"

Thursday (so far) - 2.91"

Not sure when to officially start "the event" but that's 15.29" since Sunday and counting.

That area from Harrisburg and Reading got crushed last night. I wonder if we see the band shift west just a bit as the flow backs around to more se. It also may begin to fragment out more, later today.

Dr's. Joe Calhoun and Scalia were on our local am station a bit ago. They both said that the flow would set up out of the SE as we move on. That is well supported by current 850 mb Moisture Transport analysis. The 700 feed is broken though, so we go from fire hose to garden hose - as CTP put out, that's insult to injury (and that injury is looking catastrophic)

Wow, the 322 ramp at 39 in Hershey has collapsed.

These reports are bringing to mind the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. Not in storm scope, just that we're seeing things reported we never expected to see.

Sauss - I may have to totally retract my previous statements.

So W-B will see a crest about 1' less than Agnes, and Harrisburg so far will see a crest a little less than 4' less. That's just great.

Moderate rain again in Harrisburg; the guys on WGAL said a few minutes ago Katia moving up the coast is kicking that moisture west so it'll once again ride over Dauphin/Lebanon/Luzurne/Schuylkill counties.

Yeah, the radar looks like the heavy rain has W-B right it in its sights. This is not good.
