6-10 and 8-14 day maps show below avg. precip for the lone star state. not a single monthly forecast for the next year has anything better than EC.

looks like an el niño winter is unlikely at best and we may instead fall back toward la niña.

anyone got good news?

i know texasagrilife now estimates $1.2 bil in losses from the drought.

crazy day here in college station. tens of thousands in the for the SMU game as winds gust into the 40s, the temp hovers near 100, clouds from lee stream overhead, and wildfires erupt right inside the city.

this one is between 6 and texas just a mile or two from campus. i went up to the top of a parking garage to get a couple shots. hard to see with the clouds, but apparently two trailer parks have been evacuated to the walmart parking lot at texas and harvey mitchell. i can hear sirens wailing around the city. reading texags, fans are reporting more fires between here and dallas as well from their drive down.

Oh Boy. The pine forest down there must be a tinderbox with ground water virtually gone and the soil desiccated.

We have multiple wildfires burning here in the Austin metro area late this afternoon. All 13 fire departments in Travis County are actively engaged in fighting a fire .. somewhere in the county. Reports of damaged homes and evacuations. Also saw a report or two on Twitter from folks driving in I-10 between San Antonio and Houston and experiencing periods of zero visibility due to wildfires burning there.
