I want people to step back from the ledge...and realize it's Dec.9th...

And not act like we can actually predict that there won't be a decent threat beyond the 5 day range...since it's basically unpredictable...

I wouldn't say that. Pattern recognition is pretty valuable for detecting threats and this pattern just isn't all that great.

I mentioned quite a while ago about the arctic cold being on the wrong side of the globe.   That's a big problem ;   the air has obviously been very cold, but it was partly the result of NAO blocking and the large low that resulted upstream, which failed SNE and a good chunk of NE as far as snowfall.    Seasonal trends ftw it seems;  it's time to start being realistic until we see a large enough NHEM pattern change AND arctic air getting involved.

I agree,    it's going to take a shuffle or a re-deal of the pattern, so to speak.    To say there is above avg unpredictability is not true IMO.

Well is it?

The next 7 days look pretty crummy barring some type of miracle retrograde event.

That brings us to the 12/19 event. 3 weeks of a solid pattern gone with a pretty serious Nina. Hmmmm sounds great to me!

How is that a miracle retrograde? We've been seeing retrograde threats during the rediculous 12 months of -NAO...and with a 582 dm block over Greenland...why is that so crazy? Is it because you live in the CT river valley and not coastal MA?

That why i dont post here because to many are always down on snow chances and say that weather pattern isnt good for snowstorms or the winter will end early . I disagree with that and say the weather is getting better in the next three weeks . We will be getting snowstorms in dec . we will have a good winter for snowstorms

Absolutely right. Thanks for the great post. Let me start getting excited about a retrograde event that the vast majority of models don't support!

Well the 12/19-12/20 system could be good. Obviously the op Euro sucks for it but things could shake out better. I think that and the retrograde event are where we stand now.

it's really scary that we have to ponder an event a week and a half away. People keep harping "it's early"...but these great patterns are always "10 days out". Well, it's not really THAT early, and we've already spent almost a month saying "next week".

The problem with the retro is if it happens it'll warm up after with no snow chances. and melt whatever we get from that...so it's like which foot do we want up our azz..the right or the left?
