dryslot
Will, That moisture that is out ahead of the low that moves up the coast and makes it into SE Mass wouldn't that be some light snow?
Baroclinic Zone
NAM doesn't look that good to me. It would still probably be too far west. Yeah, still ends up giving the midwest a big storm.
ORH_wxman
Will, That moisture that is out ahead of the low that moves up the caost and makes it into SE Mass wouldn't that be some light snow? It might be initially, but temps (both sfc and aloft) are warming, so it would change to light rain...the interior the last few frames looks like it has some light snow and light freezing rain as an easterly flow develops off the water. But that is the 84h NAM, so of course its to be taken FWIW.
weatherwiz
Something I've always been a little confused on. When doing some reading in the past about troughs and jet streaks I've read that you usually want to see the jet streak occur at the base of the trough, in this case it looks as if the jet streak is oriented more towards the left side of the trough. What exactly does having the jet streak at the base of the trough do/mean?
cpickett79
i like how there is a 1024 little bubble of HP popping out over quebec hr 78. (edit) and at hour 84.....) not that that means anything. hopefully john sees something he likes that will doesn't ? let's play guess what

ctsnowstorm628
Not liking the euro this afternoon...or the 0z NAM....extrapolated it looks similar to the 12z EURO...18z gfs looks rediculous, but the gefs and ggem ensembles look great...thoughts? What exactly does having the jet streak at the base of the trough do/mean? See http://apollo.lsc.vsc.edu/classes/met130/notes/chapter12/jet_streak.html When you have the jetstreak at the base of the trough, the divergence is maximized to the northeast of the base which typically coincides with the low center resulting in intensification of the low. When the jetstreak is diving down into the left side of the trought (see NAM 84hr 300mb charts), the trough will amplify. This happens bigtime with this event in the sun-tue timeframe, which is going to make this a fun event to follow.

So with what you said about the jetstreak digging on the left side allowing for amplification that is a good thing? Does that allow for the system to dig more? In general...jet streak diving into the base of the trof = digging. jet streak downstream of the trof axis = lifting out

weathafella
It's all good. Jerry introduced me to his daughter as Zeus. The Senior moment... Now when she really studies Zeus and other gods she'll think of you! Cold tonight but not out of the ordinary. People are over-reacting to the cold this week. It's subnormal but not too far. On the other hand, 50's & 60's might cause fewer ropes and chairs than below normal temps, an inland runner, followed by much below normal temps.
