I don't think I've ever seen this on the East Coast (or at least in this area)... overcast from the GFS throughout all of the next week:

Took the kids and some friends to hike the A section of the billy goat trail. Man, nice cool start but when the sun came out it felt like the middle of July. Way hotter than I thought it was going to be but very fun regardless.

For those who have never done this trail, it is a great hike with fantastic views and I highly recommend it. I do it at least twice a year.

Today was the third straight day in the 90s at Bluefield, WV and the 12th of the year. Wonder how much longer they will continue with the tradition of passing out free lemonade on 90+ days. I suspect it will soon be a casualty of global warming (or UHI, if you prefer, since there's so much urban heat at 3000' in the mountains). It's interesting watching the 90+ days there trend upward. From 1939 until 2006, the average was 2.6 a year. The last five years have averaged 7.0 days a year, with the record being 18 set in 2007. This year had the first 90 degree day in May there and I'd assume the latest heat wave on record there. Climate models suggest they'll probably be seeing 14 days of 90+ in 20 or 30 years -- can't see the point of continuing to highlight the mild climate when it's no longer very mild.
