The wet pattern rolls on for Northern OH. Excellent year for those in the waterproofing business. It's nice to see the lush vegetation... but it would be great to see the sun again.

IMPRESSIVE UPPER FORCING DEVELOPING THU INTO THU NIGHT WITH THE UPPER LOW THAT WILL SET UP CAMP OVER THE OHIO VALLEY FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. PROBLEM IS WHERE DRY SLOT WILL BE BEHIND THE COLD FRONT AND HOW LONG IT WILL REMAIN BEFORE CYCLONIC FLOW ALOFT STRETCHES THIS FEATURE INTO DISSIPATION. WILL STAY WITH PLAN OF DROPPING POPS SOME FOR THU INTO THU NIGHT THEN RAMPING BACK UP FOR FRI INTO FRI NIGHT AS MOISTURE DRAWN BACK INTO AREA. ALSO HELPING OUT BY LATER FRI WILL BE INCREASED LAKE ENHANCEMENT. CERTAINLY SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE AT THIS POINT THAT CLE WILL HAVE ANY WAY NOT TO BREAK THE

ALL TIME ANNUAL RAINFALL RECORD BASED ON THE EXPECTED CONTINUATION OF THE WET PATTERN THAT HAS HELD ITS GRIP ON THE AREA SINCE ABOUT FEBRUARY. OVER AN INCH WAS ACCUMULATED OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS LEAVING ONLY 7.04 LEFT TO TIE THE OLD RECORD WITH THREE AND A THIRD MONTHS LEFT TO GO.

It's been unreal. Almost a 19" surplus for the year. This would have been the winter equivalent of 140 inches for the season.

You can really smell the mold outside and a lot of weird fungi and mushrooms are blossoming in people's yards. We've just never had any time to dry out this year. Should be an impressive fall color show.

Lets not put those fans and AC units away just yet...the potential exist or at least it seems as if a decent warm spell or Fall type heat wave are lurking.

Seeing many long ranges predicting an above normal fall with temps. Wondering if that trend starts mid next week. Question is how long will the possible stretch of above normal temps last? Could we have a torched October - Dec.... Hope not.

La Nina falls tend to be warm. Why you're thinking it extends through December is a bit of a reach at this moment.

I'm not thinking December will be warm. Just wondering how long the warmth or may I say.. How long the above normal temps last. Last years december should be a great example of what to expect.. Forgive me if I'm wrong but come Dec 1st we crashed with temps into the below norm range.

Gotcha, just saw the Oct-Dec part and assumed you meant it lasted through December. Who knows what will happen. September was supposed to be a torch here and has been anything but, save the first 3 days. Of course I'd rather not "use up" all the cold air in Oct and Nov...

Today is the 9 year anniversary of the long track F3 tornado that went through Indianapolis. I have a writeup of this event on my blog if anyone is interested:

September 20, 2002

Do you have access to any high resolution track maps, more specifically for Madison County? I know I live with in 1/2 mile of the track, but I wasn't living in Indiana until 2003, curious how close the track was to here.

Edit: Tornado History Project puts the track about 10 blocks south of my house, but I don't always trust the map there.

I'll try to find that. And yeah, the THP maps are not perfect.

Thanks for posting those. Yeah, as damaging as it was, that is one of those things that was pretty close to being an enormous disaster.

BTW, you know we've had boring weather when radar images from 9 years ago are getting posted.

Haha, yeah normally I wouldn't post that many old images in a current thread, but we're in a relatively calm period currently.

Even though we're not being greatly impacted by the upper Midwest/Plains storm tonight, it's still good to see that kind of system rolling through the CONUS again. September is already over half over. Autumn is rolling in. :guitar:

Ah yes, I remember this date well. I lived in Greenwood at the time. I was in high school and a kid was sitting in class when he suddenly stood up looked at the teacher and said "Is the sky supposed to be dark on one half of the window and then bright on the other?" (It was science class with two large windows looking out to the north). As soon as he said that the alarm went off for us to take cover. We stayed at school forever and when the buses finally came to pick everyone up, everything looked ok to me. There were some damaged roofs here and there but nothing big...until we got to my house. The tornado had moved northeast right over our neighborhood and managed to take down a large sycamore that ironically landed...on my car. It was totaled. The car had no chance. The tree ended up landing softly on our garage but managed to get a new roof. Funny though, the people across the street didnt even lose a limb.

I remember the YMCA being hit, (which is now a beautiful new YMCA complex) and a Shoe Carnival was destroyed. It was amazing no one was seriously injured. Funny how you can remember all the little things.
