The Most Daily Rainfall in Nearly 3 Months

The Indianapolis airport received the most rainfall for a calendar day in nearly three months. From 1 am to 7am EDT the Indianapolis airport measured 1.05 inches of rainfall. This is the most rainfall the airport has received in a single calendar day since 2.03 inches fell on June 20.

Significant rainfall was not limited to the airport. Much of Marion County received over an inch of rainfall while dry areas of southwest Indiana picked up as much as 2 inches. Additional rainfall is expected today.

September 2011 could have been skipped for all I care.

September might be in the running for my least favorite weather month. Typically boring outside the years that some tropical remnants move through, but that's kind of random. At least this one hasn't been a scorcher like the last 4...

There will likely be several more opportunities for rain before the month ends, but as it stands now this is the 2nd driest September on record for Chicago.

2. 0.12" - 2011

3. 0.26" - 2004

4. 0.31" - 1940

5. 0.32" - 1891

6. 0.46" - 1956

8. 0.74" - 1871

9. 0.77" - 1962

10. 0.83" - 1954

Down to 9th now...

1. 0.01" - 1979

I agree. September has a tendency of being quite dull. Seems to be an intervening month where convective episodes are on the decline while the polar jet hasn't shifted south enough to setup any synoptic storms.

Up to 1.23" at IND for the day, through noon. Let's see if they can beat July and August's combined rainfall of 1.58". :yikes:

1.46" through 2PM. Looks like some development to their west...

1.53" through 5PM...and heavy rain reported after the top of the hour ob (0.09" so far). Looks like they've done it. One day to essentially equal/better two full months of rain (dry months obviously). Weather is funny sometimes.

EDIT: 1.88" for the day through 6PM.

There is a heckuva impressive cyclone tomorrow across the northern plains featuring 60-65 MPH winds and you talk of boring weather. I guess I just don't get it.

In this world it's about what's happening IYBY. Regardless, I agree I'm semi-interested in the system in the Northern Plains that could create some storms in N Minnesota and N Wisconsin.

All about the iyby. I'll be completely honest. Except for something truly exceptional, like the 2010 (or was it 09?) Octobomb, I find it very difficult to get too excited about weather that's not affecting me directly.

Yes this is impressive and very cool and already looks impressive on WV/IR

Holy crap! That is impressive.

I think sometimes when the weather pattern is benign in our own backyards we have a tendency to pay less attention to weather in general, and thus miss out on other excitement around the country. I think that mostly applies to those of us who aren't in the profession on a daily basis.
