Concerned for how svr storms entering IN will affect Notre Dame Game in South Bend. Earlier I read that officials said that they would evacuate the stands and field so persons can go to concourse areas if lightning strikes were within ten miles of the stadium. We will see what happens.

Hopefully those in Ann arbor do the same. Storms popping now.

Apparently, Kitchener, ON got hit with a nasty storm at around 2:30 pm. The St. Jacob's Farmer's Market in particular took a hit - high winds, heavy rain, lots of stalls blown away. Tons of $ lost, five injuries and one person taken to the hospital.

My parents were there today

Just had a lightning delay at the Michigan-Western Michigan game on ABC. Plus I just flipped over to Notre Dame on NBC and they're in a lightning delay too (and a loud thunderclap that could be heard in the NBC booth). But the heart of Illini country (Springfield, Champaign), nothing yet other than radar-watching and cloud-watching toward the Peoria-area storms. Hopefully the Illini (and also Cardinal baseball) can get their games in although we need the rain.

That's about 2km north of me. Looks like a war zone. Moderate to severe damage all around the city.

I called EC to report 90+ kmh winds with debris flying around and zero visibility, but they still didn't issue a warning. Win some lose some?

Rocking afternoon on the college football front - on ABC national tv from Ann Arbor, they called a 30 minute lightning delay and pulled teams into the locker rooms. Many fans still milling about the stands although apparently the official word was that people's cars would be the best shelter. That particular cell is very small and non-severe and it appeared to be getting sunny even as the teams were still straggling into the tunnels. On that broadcast they said lightning within 20-25 miles was enough to halt play. If you tune in now, they just temporarily switched to the Minnesota - USC game.

Meanwhile on NBC, the USF-ND game from South Bend appears to be getting a solid storm that has resulted in the first ever "lightning evacuation" of Notre Dame Stadium. This also from a non-severe and localized cell. However, there is a very impressive severe warned complex moving at them, with warnings currently out for LaPorte (IN) and Berrien (MI) counties. That appears to be on the way to South Bend. They are still broadcasting from that game and just had an awesome CG come down very close to the stadium. The broadcast team jumped in their seats with the crack of thunder caught live. Amazing to see that stadium clear out that quick.

Will be interesting to see how both teams at South Bend respond, especially considering what will be lengthy delay and that the Irish are being upset 16-0 going into the 3rd quarter.

Really unstable outside..It appears the Cap is slowly breaking down. Healthy amount of CU and small towers are going up to from the Thumb to around Coldwater. Nasty Supercell earlier around Lexington Mi. Heard a report of numerous trees being uprooted and ripped apart..Dangerous situation as that is Cottage and Beach country.

Looking upstream, the guys at U of M aren't hardly done either.

You weren't kidding! Michigan-Western Michigan game at Ann Arbor now canceled due to the ongoing presence and threat of severe weather.

First time in history they have every canceled a game at Michigan Stadium due to severe weather.

What's up with offices like DTX issuing storm reports for pea size hail and 33 mph wind gusts? I figured with the upping of the hail requirement not too long ago, that all these minor reports would fall off and that the NWS wouldn't have to take so many calls in severe weather for non severe storms. Does the NWS want people to still call in small hail and light wind gusts even if they don't even come close to meeting severe criteria? I can't imagine having the nerve to call in and pester the NWS over a 33 mph gust with half inch hail when they have so many other tasks to be doing for real severe weather.

ya just moved back to the region for school. living on the 9th floor, the lighting show is pretty good with some low rumbles of thunder thrown in there. I was very surprised EC didnt pull the trigger and issue warnings with the earlier cell, that was one of the best wind storms i have seen in a long time.

Round two... pretty awesome lightning show to the west

Nothing gets the crowd pumped up like a thunderstorm....good stuff. Decent storm as well.

ANOTHER severe weather delay at South Bend! This one announced over the PA system at 30 minutes. Non-severe warned cells moving in.

Teams into the locker rooms and fans filing out again. Apparently in the last delay they had fans in the adjacent Joyce Center indoor arena and surrounding buildings.

NBC broadcast team is doing their best with the situation, although one of them is pretty damn critical. The sideline reporter is hinting at the past weather-related incident(s) as a reason for heightened precautions.

4:06 to play in the game and South Florida on top 23-13. Unlike the Michigan/WMU game, the favored home team here at South Bend is probably gun shy at canceling the game. Even though they don't look too good, laying down a white flag while down by only ten would be a natural way to piss off the national alumni base.
