Correct, and it looks terrible. The Euro ensembles at 500mb are still awful, too..and actually bring forward some similarities to Dec 2001

December 2001 general idea was fixated around a similar Eastern and Northern Pacific pattern.

Notice the persistent negative anomalies near Alaska which kept sliding southeast towards the NW US in association with a -PNA.

Group think in effect. Someone says euro weeklies look like Dec 2001 and then eveeryone jumps on.

I expect the folllowing departures December through April:

+5, +7, +9, -4 ( but will be a snowless March regardless) and -6 (25 out of 30 days of April will be cloudy and the average wind speed for the month will be 23.7 mph, total rain 7 inches.)

ugh-JB's column today is depressing....talks about 01-02 and shows the water temps map from that year and notes its not all that different from this year....mentions solar activity increasing and trop cooling-sounds as if we dont get the cold Dec into Jan we're screwed...

oh my lord he hugs the euro weeklies/monthlies harder than earthlight.

Some people are hyping up 01-02 so if this winter winds up sucking they can claim victory. If it winds up delivering though they can refer people back to their original, snowier thoughts and claim victory again.

Part of the problem is that folks now expect monster winters every year...we are due for something less than stellar at some point....this board will be unreadable if we get off to a bad start this year...

I thought maybe Al Gore's rhetoric solved the problem and now all winters will be cold and snowy. </sarcasm>

NWS Upton might want to issue a wind advisory... I was just driving through Alpine (higher elevations of east Bergen) and saw new branches down, some of them on the road, and came back home to find out I lost power for a short time.

upton issued a SWS regarding this expecting branches and trees down that were weakened in the week of freak, and power outages, as usual good job by them

Yeah, I didn't see any wind advisory at first but then noticed they had a SWS specifically about the wind and power outages. It's good that they had some sort of a warning about this, almost every hazard they mentioned verified here...
