NYCSuburbs
The 0z ECM had a much stronger PNA going off the chart... hopefully that does not end up being the case and the PNA moderates faster.

These charts don't show the whole picture, much better to actually look at the 500mb pattern on the actual maps.
TheTrials
Correct, and it looks terrible. The Euro ensembles at 500mb are still awful, too..and actually bring forward some similarities to Dec 2001 December 2001 general idea was fixated around a similar Eastern and Northern Pacific pattern. http://www.meteo.psu...2001/120309.png Notice the persistent negative anomalies near Alaska which kept sliding southeast towards the NW US in association with a -PNA. http://www.cpc.ncep....eas_dec2001.gif Group think in effect. Sundog
I expect the folllowing departures December through April: +5, +7, +9, -4 ( but will be a snowless March regardless) and -6 (25 out of 30 days of April will be cloudy and the average wind speed for the month will be 23.7 mph, total rain 7 inches.) Sundog
oh my lord he hugs the euro weeklies/monthlies harder than earthlight. Some people are hyping up 01-02 so if this winter winds up sucking they can claim victory. If it winds up delivering though they can refer people back to their original, snowier thoughts and claim victory again.

Part of the problem is that folks now expect monster winters every year...we are due for something less than stellar at some point....this board will be unreadable if we get off to a bad start this year... I thought maybe Al Gore's rhetoric solved the problem and now all winters will be cold and snowy. </sarcasm>
NYCSuburbs
NWS Upton might want to issue a wind advisory... I was just driving through Alpine (higher elevations of east Bergen) and saw new branches down, some of them on the road, and came back home to find out I lost power for a short time. It's good that they had some sort of a warning about this, almost every hazard they mentioned verified here...
