Since when did 1-3 of slop turn into a "major snowstorm"

This time of year, any real accumulating snow is a big deal around here. People in no way are prepared for it. Even areas inland don't start really prepping until around Thanksgiving. The Oct 2005 snowstorm in State College caught everyone off guard and was a high impact event despite it only being a few inches and it being gone the next day. The weight of the snow also causes a lot of tree damage. If the Euro's right, it could also be substantially more than 3" for hilly, inland areas. Just in Oct 2009, parts of the immediate State College area had over half a foot, so it can happen (not talking about areas immediately around NYC, those areas would be lucky to even have slush).

Theres a difference between being caught off guard and being surprised.

A few inches of slop wont really stop people around here, a 1-2 foot blizzard like the one last Christmas is another story....

Jeeez that is extreme.

Just 2 weeks ago I hit 90 and now we're talking about snow. I bet almost everyone didn't see the potential for late October snow coming in the first accumulating snowfall prediction thread, a total slap in the face lol.

Its definitely par for the course out in Colorado. Here not so much.........can't believe your trees are still that green. About to hit peak here.......oh and I can't wait to see pazzo and urs obnoxiouly warm morning low for this coming cold snap...loljk.

While it is fun tracking something again, i dont think anybody really thinks its going to snow, its been 65+ degrees for the past month and the trees are almost full summer green. I prefer one quick cold snap to kill all the ragweed, then 70+ till november 15, then let the winter begin. This weekend will be miserable with a 45 degree cold rain/drizzle.
