Ugh, at this point many places are on pace for 6-10 inches of rain, and winds have made it into the 40-60 range. Irene can whatever she wants. Heck, if she wants to hit East Hampton like I guessed on Wednesday, that's cool too.

By the way........nastiest sustained winds yet happening now.......power may be gone shortly.

where are you located?

I'm over it...if this is the closest we get in my lifetime thats ok.

.

Jon, any idea why 45/Broad Street is closed for like 2 blocks where Cooper/Delaware Street meets it? When I went in earlier tonight to get the newspapers at the Times office, and I couldn't go left on 45.

Weather channel speculates that very intense band on the south coast of NJ is intense winds close to center that are jamming into coast, rising and triggering intense convection...

That might make sense if there was a large topographical rise there. Except there isn't. My guess is some kind of pseudo warm frontal structure starting to develop.

There is a core of pretty intense winds over the eastern shore of Maryland right now... this will probably go right over Philly in the next few hours. Gusts up to 60 mph possible.

Whats the wind direction...is this the post center of circulation maxima that migrated up through Richmond and DC...thanks for the heads up
