Down safely on the Cape...had to drive through a horrific band of rain though just south of the pike on the way.

The more I go over data, the more impressed I get of the duration of potentially damaging winds over most of SNE. The duration is what could be a real killer for trees/branches. I expect a lot of power outages because of this. The rain certainly won't help matters either.

Statements like this from Will and the other mets are what make this board so good (oh, Pete and Kevin digs don't hurt nor do Eric's photoshops).

Welcome back, Mike ... glad you arrived alive.

Oh, yeah - this bun's for you. :weenie:

Hey Mike, you just blow in from Maryland?

Thanks--yup in from MD. Left with the wind just picking up there at about 9:30a.m.

One consistency through all this is that the models have been bringing this thing straight towards our area for 2 days now. Let's see who loses power first, you or I.

Let's see who gets it back on first instead. :)

Town just called a state of emergency and told us not to expect fast responses from our very speedy two-person police department and other emergency services.

I do not think this is accurate.

Nothing on the states web site.

Link?

I tried scrambling around looking and found nothing.

I don't understand how people screw things up so badly. Still says he is considering it. People blame the media and what not for stuff b/c the issues lie within the fact PEOPLE DON'T LISTEN and only hear what they want to.

I'm not giving up internet without a fight. And unless 3g internet dies, don't need any cable or power to post/read this board.

but good points, I almost forgot to turn down the fridge

I think we'll make it through OK lol. May lose power for a while, but I'd be surprised if it were for more than a day. Power hasn't so much as flickered here in at least five, six years. Even without power, I can still flush my toilet, cook, take showers, etc.

Already two dead trees have come down on my road and we haven't even had any wind yet :arrowhead:, prepared to wake up to darkness, generator is in place awaiting the queue

Obviously stressed.

After reading me this thread during the 8-hour drive, my wife has informed me that she needs to look at this to find out what's going on because "you can't find any of this stuff anywhere else".

She's now looking at amwx on her computer as a guest. A new weenie is born.

I agree....at least in this area, we are not going to be without power for a week....we had it back within a day after Gloria, and those winds were likely stronger than what I'll see this go around.

There's no reason to close roads. I can see Route 15, but other than that, what purpose would closing the interstates serve?

Hot water source?

I can agree about the highways but my guess is they are really worried about extensive tree damage and don't want people driving b/c of fears of trees falling on cars and to keep the roads open for emergency personal.

Real men don't need hot water.

Getting pretty dark in Portland. Of course, it's also almost 7 pm.

lol. Just filled the last of my Blitz cans down in the valley. A NationalGrid truck was next to me. The foreman was also filling Blitz cans. He said people in the hilltowns could expect 4-7 day outages. He looked grim.

I am concerned that people are not taking this seriously. The storm surge into the nyc metro, western long island sound is going to be devestating......winds sustained at say 40 mph with gusts to 50 for 12+ hours will bring down hundreds to thousand of trees across fairfield cty, it will be much worse than that.

This will be the worst strom and damage in sw ct in 40+years.
