1) DAMAGING WINDS. IRENE HAS SUCH A BROAD CIRCULATION THAT

DAMAGING WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR THROUGHOUT THE REGION.

SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS...ON THE ORDER OF 45 TO 60

MPH...WILL OCCUR FOR MUCH OF THE DAY ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION.

GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE ARE ALSO LIKELY... ESPECIALLY ALONG THE

SOUTH COAST...AND IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN CLOSER TO THE CENTER OF IRENE. BUFKIT SOUNDINGS

NO LONGER SHOW MUCH IN THE WAY OF AN INVERSION...WHICH MEANS THAT

THESE STRONG DAMAGING WIND GUSTS ARE INDEED LIKELY TO REACH THE

SURFACE. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE SW TO WSW WINDS

BEHIND IRENE WILL ALSO PROBABLY PACK A SIGNIFICANT PUNCH...WELL

INTO THE EVENING HOURS.

In our new home for the next few days, Irene is about to re emerge over the atlantic, pressures dropped over eastern nc , I expect slight strenthening over the next 12 hours possible up to 85-90 mph, outflow looks great and jet dynamics really coming into play overnight, track looks to be right over western Fairfield cty, worst case scenario.

hurricane party has officially started

What's going to be fun tomorrow is after the center passes..the sun will come out and winds will rip out of the SW..causing more damage. Once that sun comes out..mixing will be off the hook

Completely agree, once the eye passes winds will calm down for a bit then we have a several hour period of backside winds which will be ripping as well.

Also need to realize this...winds tonight.tomorrow will be SE...backside winds will be from a different direction, thats a sudden shift of major winds for the trees.

Quick question - I am now going up to Milford, NH for the night. I checked weather.com and they say 50mph winds sustained with higher gusts. Is this what I can expect. I am disappointed leaving my current location of Danvers, but think I might actually be better off up there.

Thoughts?
