We should see that area of precip S and E of LI sound expand as some Hi res models indicate. Maybe interaction with the Jet? But thats the area that I will be watching tonight, until about 8 pm. Then I will be watching the Suh vs. Solder/Vollmer/Light

And...

1) DAMAGING WINDS. IRENE HAS SUCH A BROAD CIRCULATION THAT

DAMAGING WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR THROUGHOUT THE REGION.

SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS...ON THE ORDER OF 45 TO 60

MPH...WILL OCCUR FOR MUCH OF THE DAY ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION.

GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE ARE ALSO LIKELY... ESPECIALLY ALONG THE

SOUTH COAST...AND IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN .CLOSER TO THE CENTER OF IRENE. BUFKIT SOUNDINGS

NO LONGER SHOW MUCH IN THE WAY OF AN INVERSION...WHICH MEANS THAT

THESE STRONG DAMAGING WIND GUSTS ARE INDEED LIKELY TO REACH THE

SURFACE. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE SW TO WSW WINDS

BEHIND IRENE WILL ALSO PROBABLY PACK A SIGNIFICANT PUNCH...WELL

INTO THE EVENING HOURS.

Yay.

Just got back from MD. 8 hours to finally get ahead of the rain--7 miles from home.

Raining lightly with .08 so far.

I've followed the threads on my phone (my wife was reading them to me as I drove! lol). What a crazy storm. Given some of the earlier qpf posts, I guess the latest further west track won't impact the chances for some really good rains.

69.1/67--GROSS!

Official now...Governor Malloy has ordered all CT state roads closed. All non-law enforcement vehicles are not permitted on state roads effective immediately.

You can't go on highways? Thats kinda bizarre

I would suggest everyone charge their razors/cell phones..crank up your fridges to coldest temps now..vacuum the house..do anything you need to do electric wise. The majority of us will not be posting for days to a week or more.

You made a similar post in the '08 ice storm thread...told us all to get our candles, flashlights, and extra blankets ready lol. Power outage miser.

That would be sick if we could rip at least 1 gust to 70.

One consistency through all this is that the models have been bringing this thing straight towards our area for 2 days now. Let's see who loses power first, you or I.

I'm not giving up internet without a fight. And unless 3g internet dies, don't need any cable or power to post/read this board.

but good points, I almost forgot to turn down the fridge
