Where is this?

Norfolk, VA

They lost the 16th street pier? It was still standing around 730PM or so when I was there.

Oh no I meant my pier. I live on the Lafayette River in Norfolk

if what you say is your for real, tell us where you live? otherwise, who knows if what you are saying is true?

I'll be posting pics tomorrow morning. Certainly for real. Really sad to see :(

Getting more impressed with Irene as the night goes on. Nice "sheeting effect" with the wind and heavy rain. Saw a couple of flashes from transformers blowing when I went up to Fort Reno just now. Got drenched, too. No indication in my immediate neighborhood that people have lost power; lets hope that holds. Buses still running on Wisconsin Ave; they might not have been carrying passengers, however. I was the only pedestrian fool enough to be out.

Now the lights are beginning to flicker, really for the first time all night (unless they did while I was just out).

Strongest winds of the night here in Petworth. Lights flickering occasionally and trees absolutely whipping around. Loving it (until the power goes out)!

No sooner do I post this than the streetlights all around me go out. The streets plunged into darkness, but houses still with power. For now.

will anyone sleep tonight? or only when the eye passes due east from their location

I have an incredibly busy day tomorrow...have to get up by 7am, but no way in hell am I going to sleep right now during the best tropical conditions since 2003.

Conditions now are definitely more impressive than I thought they would've been earlier this evening. HoCo nearing 10,000 outages now and BGE almost 250,000 -- half way to their expected half a million.
