Interesting lol. Somebody will have to do some research into this. It's like a combo of creaking and fart noises.

im hearing it now too.. wasnt earlier. i think the noise difference is distance difference

Tons and tons of damage here. Backyard is obliterated. Pier is destroyed. Hundreds of others in the same boat. Going to be a long long cleanup here. Just got the water all from the part of our house that sits on ground level.

Where is this?

On a side note, it's amaziing what 40-45 kt gusts will do to trees. Imagine 60+kts.

They lost the 16th street pier? It was still standing around 730PM or so when I was there.

Just wanted to step in for a sec.... I heard the same noises and saw brilliant flashes of light, those are transformers blowing. But in my case it wasn't because of the wind (this was before the wind ramped up), it was because there had been some sort of lightning strike and it overloaded the system. We've had big thunderstorms here tonight but the wind just started to ramp up about an hour ago.

The only other time I've seen transformers blowing like this was in the big March 2010 noreaster when we had 80 mph winds.

Massive gust just blew through trees near the Potomac river but missed my Specific backyard somehow, but definitely heard a tree go down

I think we got that gust too - power went out for about 2 seconds. Enough to reboot everything I have running..

timmer says that last band way down in nc still rockin with wind

Maybe my PEPCO 95,000 call will be right.

Such an odd noise! lol - thanks for clarifying. And they really do sound like farts.
