Ian
City of Suffolk just posted on their Facebook wall that we're seeing gusts of 60 - 70 MPH, which is stronger than we saw in the middle of the storm this afternoon. the models had a lot of wind on the tail (again). mattie g
there's no reason to compare it to isabel (at least around here) except that's what everyone remembers I honestly don't remember anything about Isabel. And I really I have no idea why.
Kmlwx
Outages are rising after being stagnant for a while this evening. PEPCO is nearing 39,000 - BGE is nearing 89,000 - Delmarva power has cracked 60,000 - and of course Dominion is at 899,428 at last check.

Midlo Snow Maker
Joe Bastardi just tweeted that Hampton Roads has tied it's all-time storm-surge, tying Isabel.. Can anyone confirm? Close within a few inches
Ian
I honestly don't remember anything about Isabel. And I really I have no idea why. this is my best tropical system since in dc but the only other comparo may be fay so that's not a hard one... if this took an isabel track somehow it probably would have been similar to isabel. there's a big difference between being in the right front quad and considerably west of the center. Bob Chill
Thomas Point @ 10 was 51mph gusting to 64mph out of the north. Probably 8' waves in the mid bay.

Either way, it is absolutely ripping here Ian, gusting over 55-60 every 10-15 seconds, crazy band around this part.
mitchnick
it's all about irene's back side I don't recall a cane around here that converted its tight, eye wall winds to a general tropical storm force winds in all directions like Irene should be some interesting studies done on it in the future
Sparky
I prefer the NW quadrant of a hurricane such as this one for the rain banding. Isabel to me was not that interesting.
Kmlwx
Hearing occasional bangs/thuds that don't sound like transformers, falling trees, or thunder. So they must be alien invaders.

mattie g
Hearing occasional bangs/thuds that don't sound like transformers, falling trees, or thunder. So they must be alien invaders. Me too. I thought one was a transformer earlier, but I was outside for one a few minutes ago, and there was no flash with it. I was thinking it might be stuff hitting a house. But aliens might be a decent call.

WVclimo
Rain has finally jumped the Blue Ridge! Though I did pick up 0.30" early today from those rogue showers away from the precip shield. Winds now gusting to 25 mph.

Kmlwx
You too? I thought it was my house settling, winds aren't too terrible atm. They are either large branches falling or transformers but they don't fit the sound of either. Who knows. Maybe my alien invasion theory was correct.
