Dalfy
This is stronger than i expected. I'm surprised at the relative lack of power outages in the dc area. Yea so far not even a flicker here which is surprisingly excelent. And I have pepco..

real
It's gusty in NW Washington, but to be honest the "sustained" winds seemed stronger a few hours ago. when its not gust, it's like dead calm

Zeromus-X
I can't confirm with any official details but I'm a block away from Main St in Suffolk and the Nansemond River is higher than I've ever seen. We went out about two hours ago to check it out. There's a curfew running right now so I can't make any more direct observations, as my house sits between Main St and the police station. The wind has picked up here to levels that we didn't even see earlier today, and we're getting lightning now.

GATECH
No way, I know the difference. Been watching and hearing transformers blow all night. Saw the flash and then the loud rumble, just like thunder. Transformers are more like a buzz and then a zap boom. it was a transformer.
09-10 analogy
No comparison to Isabel so far from an IMBY point of view. Nice storm, and perhaps the next few hours will prove me wrong. But Irene's winds are nothing like Isabel's, sustained or gusts. No knock on the current storm, it's just Isabel was a rare and spectacular event.
