Ian, you respond to everyone and everything. I've read your posts now for 2 years. You obviously have weather knowledge but this whole meteorology as a contact sport needs to stop. 90% of the posts here are garbage...from personal jibes to inconsequential observations about nothing relevant. This poor bastard who is in Cape May - hellllloooooo storm is moving from the east - wrote something I thought of as insightful, if not technically correct, was treated as though he was inhuman. Stop it. This is a weather forum. I cannot believe how poorly those who are not established here are treated. It's not rough around the edges. It's just cruel.

No he was belittled for getting some of his terminology mixed up but his ideas were basically sound.

The idea of a tornado "mixing down" is not sound in any way shape or form. The only idea that was sound is that SOME storms can produce tornadoes. But just because there is a squall with lightning does not mean a tornado will come out of the sky. I'd say about 5% of the post in question was sound.

On the heels of that discussion about trolling, I might be risking the wrath of the weather board gods, but here in Bethesda with about 1.5" of rain, and very few gusts above 25mph, it just feels like a rainy day... Hard to believe it's really going to pick up much here, just on the west side of DC...

Just wait until our first screw job this winter and watch what happens to somebody posting here from somewhere else, especially if they are getting snow. That guy brought some attitude with him and his posts. Not surprising that he was treated the way he was.

Anyway, I tried to post this a minute ago, but it didn't make it for some reason. I'll try again. Va Beach has to be getting hammered. The center of circ. looks to be walking up the beach down there.

The hurricane is just exiting the NC/VA coast.

tornadoes descend. That was the down part. Splitting hairs here. I guess if he had said spin down on the deep (not heavy like he said) convection everything would have been honkey dorey.

models did not increase the winds to "big levels" till about 0z which we're coming up on. i think we've actually been running ahead of MOS. i dont think we're going to wake up to trees down everywhere but the worst is still coming most likely.

To those established here, you do not understand my point. To those new to this site, you understand exactly what my point is - I've spoken with you. I love meteorology...was an officer in the Marines stationed at El Toro and was a met during the mid '90s. I'm nothing but a dumb banker now. I'm simply asking the leadership of this site to do a better job of taking the new blood that happens upon us...how many new people stay religiously after a big storm - your new blood...and bring this forum to the next level.

Ok, points taken. But you can either PM me or Ian with the issue and we can discuss it further. This thread is being taken off track with this.

Yes...I guess if he actually understood how a tornado forms but I don't think that was the case. regardless it's not splitting hairs - he was simply wrong and I am done discussing it. Tornado formation is far more complicated than the tornado dropping or "mixing down" - it doesn't just happen and it doesn't happen even just because there is a storm in a hurricane feeder band.
