I'm less than 15 miles SSE of LGA. I work for the FAA at the NY Terminal Radar Approach Control Facility here in Westbury so I have been in touch with fellow employees at LGA/JFK and NWK on and off all night. As I said, in some of the bands that have passed through it was fun to watch but as I said you'd think the world was coming to an end and honestly feel emotion is making up a LARGE part of some of the recent posts. I live in Kings Park in Northwestern Suffolk Co. and my VP2 shows a gust high of 51.3 mph and less than 2" of rain since midnight. The station we use at work to monitor conditions during Emergency Generator runs shows a peak of 61.6 mph and a 1 hour average of 44.7 w 3.14" of rain. But hey if it's "Ripping" or "Epic" near you guys ENJOY IT !!

Cental Park about 4 and third inches, Newark over 5 inches of rain- event totals..seems that the higher rainfall totals are towards the west though..less on Long Island.

Easily am experiencing the strongest winds of the storm thus far (Caldwell, NJ) - Sustained around 35mph, gusts hitting 50-55mph. Rainfall in excess of 4.5" - Trees into houses & power out throughout the area are extensive (via police scanner). I spent about 20 minutes outside and saw flashes throughout the sky... At first I thought they were lightning flashes, until the power went out, lol... transformers popping in all directions!

board went down??

it has actually been very quiet here in Holbrook over the past hour or so... no strong bands went through anyway

same here.. winds were much worse about 3 hours ago.. it's been relatively quiet for awhile now... Just now - the winds are beginning to pick up again... Nothing higher than 50mph gusts though. i still have power, thanksfully..

so far if anything this has been like hurricane bob around here- in western suffolk... gloria was (so far) much worse around here as compared to Irene.. i just don't know if when this eye goes to our west will it bring in stronger winds etc... time will tell...

Also, we've received about 5-6 inches of rain - a lot more than what we got with Gloria..

Any reports on what is going on in Long Beach, Freeport, etc?

There's a ton of flooding on Long Island, both flash flooding from rain and also surge. I saw videos out of Huntington with water near the tops of cars and rushing down the streets like rapids!

Freeport is bad from what I've gotten from some of the emergency management people. I have a friend in Bellmore who did not evacuate and said so far so good, only a few blocks from the bay and no problems...that area though is much less flood prone that Freeport or Long Beach.
