I personally agree...I'm not observing any chaos in Westchester County, though of course no one expects a TC to be as dangerous inland. But considering the media hype and the supermarket lines/traffic today, you'd think something worse than a windy rainstorm was occurring. Given the discussions, I was certain we were going to lose power in this storm, and we haven't even had a single flicker of the lights which occurs in modest thunderstorms. The 8/18 t-storm was much more impressive here with 3.5" of rain in less than 2 hours; this time, most of the rain has trained over the Catskills/Poconos, or slid to the south across Central NJ, which to be fair has been pummeled.

Strongest winds are near the coast, east of the storm.

NYC, JFK and LGA have all gusted past 60mph.

And as I type this another gust easily past 50mph here.

Not to be a downer here but if this is impressing a lot of you that much you must not have been around for Gloria. Honestly a little depressed with this overall. Yeah some strong bands but based on some of the posts I see here the last hour or so you'd think a CAT3 was moving ashore. Mods please don't delete this as it's not a trolling post but an honest observation. Been at work in Westbury watching over a 40K square foot Federal facility and see nothing of the "Chaos" that seems to be going on around me Lol. Am I missing something ?

Many people on here live well west of where Gloria hit and didnt see gusts to 65 mph and many didnt see this sort of rain either. I know what you're saying though, in Gloria there were power polls for miles bent and ripped out of the ground along major roads and this was from pure wind not trees knocking them over. This storm is not as strong but for many people its worse than they've ever experienced from any landfalling tropical system here.

Exactly. LGA approached 70mph wind gusts and it will probably be worse in a couple hours.

NZucker-- It is not chaos here where I am in Westchester, but I am guessing now that we have had 6 inches of rain 2.5 inches in the last hour or so and winds are gusting to at least 45 miles per hour. I was outside 15 minutes ago and the trees were leaning over because of the wind. And we are still about 6 hours from the heart of the storm. I think it has been pretty dramatic. I am happy that we have not lost power. But I am guessing we still may.

5AM advisory track goes through NE nj....HORRIBLE scenario for the 8am hightide in manhattan...battery park might be submerged.

TWC just said that the advisory will be 75 mph winds still a hurricane and a bit of a west trend to the track...at least that is what they said. Also slightly faster foreward motion...again just what TWC said...

75 mph

958 mb

18 mph nne

*now TWC says no change in track...after just saying a bit to the west before...

6"? WOW! HPN is only at 3.11", and I'm not even sure we've had that much here. I guess the dryslot moved from east to west and avoided places further north.

It is really pounding rain outside now, impressive. Still not sure we will get the 8-10" models/HPC showed, as it looks as if the heaviest rains may be interior NY/PA well to the west of the track. We should have figured this from prior experience, as it's common for the heavy rains to be further west of the track than predicted. I would say maximum winds here have been around 40mph but it's hard to say exactly given I have protection to the east/southeast, and also the fact that winds off the deck have been more.

There are big trees down on Francis lewis Blvd in Queens between 73rd ave and Union tpke. There are also big tree down on the Westbound grand Central parkway by the Mobil gas station right before the 188th street exit. What a storm, this reminds me of Belle.
