I know that this storm will have lots of wind, crazy rain, and a pretty bad surge b/c the the trajectory of the storm... But this is the worst looking hurricane i've ever seen...

Bryan Norcross was just commenting about how it doesn't look very impressive on satellite - but also said neither did Gloria or Bob.

I will say the winds, at this stage, have been slightly more impressive than I thought they would be. The trees are really moving around the last half hr. Not sure on exact gust speeds yet.

I'm in new brunswick and we have a light breeze. highest gust so far has been 20

Have fun boys. Believe it or not, I'm on vacation and missing this. LOL.

Looks like it scrapes NJ as it moves NNE. Should be some good winds..thinking 40-60 maybe gusts to 70 near the center on the west and north side. Probably gusts to 85 or isolated higher east of the center.

I think we have to give up on the idea that hurricanes or tropical storms up here ever look like what they do down in the tropics lol.

VDM pressure up to 955MB

max flight level winds 87 kts east quad...but it seems like it only slowly drops off from there as you go NE....the convection just south of you guys may be mixing more of that down

so even though winds aloft are weaker closer to you guys, a higher percentage is mixing down..so that is one of the reasons I think you may get your strongest winds in these bands later tonight rather then the core later....or it may be a wash and you will max out overnight and hold as the "core" approaches....

or something

Bob looked pretty good on satellite east of NJ with a well defined eye, Gloria did not. I'd imagine the 38 storm if there was satellite would have looked good.

Gusts so far

PHL 45, AC Airport 51, Wilmington 43, Dover 44, Wildwood 47

Just to add.

None of these locations are or will ever be on the NE quadrant. That's the only quadrant producing hurricane force winds. You need to check offshore buoys for those observations.

Parts of NYC and especially Nassau County and CT will be on the NE quadrant by morning.

Looks like some convection now on nw side of eye wall, I'm moving my family to the west side of my houses there are branches hitting roof from two 85' + Black Walnut trees on neighbors yard. 1 took out their car during Ernesto so not taking any chances. They have 30" bases and branches are 18" 50" up.
