Our news stations need to learn the definition of wall to wall coverage...fox 5 isn't even covering the tornado warnings on the NJ shore

Dont watch them...... ABC 7 is the way to go... wall to wall coverage plus the best mets on local TV

Irene looks pathetic on the infrared and the higher winds just NE of the eye are not mixing down

data from the aircraft suggest its barely a hurricane around the core...

it's possible you guys may get your strongest winds tonight in these bands rather then when the center hits

The strongest winds with Irene may be spreadng away from the center soon

AC likely saw some sort of momentum transfer to get the gust they had, it did come during the TOR warning....this will be a threat in some of the outer bands to see gusts to 60-65 mph.

My cousins live in Deer Park and West babylon off of Rte 109.To bad Robert Moses beach is closed, that beach will be gone after this storm.

Yea field 5 disappeared last 7-8 years. 1 and 2 will now be history. Hopefully cedar beach remains...

People were literally kissing Gilgo Beach goodbye yesterday. Earl did a such a number on it last year that the town added sand to it. I can't imagine the havoc Irene is about to wreak there.

There are some decent small tops around the center on the infared but the winds just aren't mixing down...been that way for days with this storm....

it was very interetsing that RIC gusted to 71 MPH well inland and in the NW quad this afternoon

I could be wrong about the winds tomorrow near the ""inner core" I can't recall a low 950's MB low end Cat 1 before.....so who knows what is going to happen

NJ and parts of the MA have a history of having insane gusts on the backside of these out of the NW. LI for some reason and New England it does not seem to occur quite as often or as severe. May have something to do with a downslope factor for the locations more inland, not too sure.

The news coverage of this system on the evening news has been absolutely atrocious..filled with commercials and almost zero coverage of the tornado warnings. There are the occasional good beach interviews that are live but otherwise they are playing old interviews from this afternoon and not covering the live developments.
