Looking at the radar tells me that the heaviest core of rain is definely going to stay west of us.We are going to continue to get these squally bands coming in from off the ocean which will still produce blinding downpours at times and a good amout of rain, just not the totals that were expected earlier.I cant wait until the 60+MPH winds come with the bands later on.

AC is up to 36 mph sustained, seems like whats going on down there will take a few hours to make its way up this way, so seems like after midnight before we start to get some decent winds

Once we get later on in the night, the winds are going to pick up dramatically.

Alot of people on this forum are from the NJ side. I assume you are talking about where you live (LI?)

but this statement can be misleading to folks in NJ who are going to see 10"+

i'm curious- many have said this storm is larger than most storms.. well gloria in this shot looks pretty big.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hurricane_Gloria_south_of_North_Carolina.gif

gloria went 50 miles tot he east of nyc - thus nyc couldn't have had the same effect as this storm may have as irene should go over eastern NYC and also come in at high tide..

Here in western suffolk, breezy, winds maybe to 20. 25 tops, on and off tropical showers...im expecting the eye to pass to my west tomorrow, so ill sit here on the sidelines for now...kinda lame to see everyone getting rain and suffolk dry...
