OSUmetstud
what was norcross looking at it when he was talking about the eye being more ragged? The thing that was on IR in the last few hours was only a small piece of the eye...it's 25 nm wide. The newest IR looks more like the whole eye is attempting to pop out. It's the best its looked in some time...this thing probably wasn't a major for most of the day today with the double wind maxima. The NHC held it for persistence and probably public safety also. butterfish55
It's tough to think about this dumb hurricane with Crystal Eggar all over TWC....It's like trying to watch a Sox game when Heidi Whatney is on. Too much distraction

Clinch Leatherwood
So will the NHC move its track east at 11? Probably not unless they get the GFS and it's east. I bet they wait until 5 if the models are still chugging east.

ski MRG
Rainstorm on roids Best guess for sustained winds here in the high terrain? We are totally waterlogged and I would think with additional heavy rain it wouldn't take much to start tipping trees. What a pain.

The consensus models shifted east so I bet they will a hair. Maybe over the Jersey shore.

40/70 Benchmark
It was funny that when you posted it had maxed out, the pressure and wind went nuts. The wind is still 115mph and the pressure has dropped 6mb....really lol <BR>Classic Ginx exaggeration
Ginx snewx
Well guys, we asked for it. Skims NC, bounces NNE, heavy heavy chainsaw action for us. Timing is everything for the RI coast, surge Cat is one Cat above wind, that's 5-8 feet above high tide with 20 footers, gonna be some barrier beach areas destroyed if this comes in at high tide in center LI at a right angle. OSUmetstud
at this point I think a saving grace might be that the storm doesn't strike during high tide. It probably comes in earlier than 8-9pm.

We are totally waterlogged and I would think with additional heavy rain it wouldn't take much to start tipping trees. What a pain. I'm resolved to losing power within the first hour of anything sustained over 50mph. Knowing this area I'll guess the number of days without power will increase with every 10mph increment over that. lol.

wxeyeNH
IR imagery is really becoming impressive. Finally Irene really looks to be getting its act together. While everyone debated the track for the last 2 days I was always thinking Meh, this thing just does not look that formidable. That seems to be changing rapidly tonight.
