Good graphic from the folks at WKTV. Wind orientation for Lake Effect.

That's a GENERAL rule of thumb chart....a nice 270 shoreline band can wallop C/S Oswego Co. and C. Oneida Co. and leave Jeff and Lewis cos. high and dry. (Although they most likely would still see upslope goodies in the higher elevations even if outside the main band.)

direction and band position are more clear cut on Erie IMO. The wideness of Ontario and the feeder bands from the upper lakes have an influence of where the band sets up.

I've seen good bands in Oswego on 295 flow from Georgian Bay and good bands on 280 flow that originated from Huron.

Sucks BUF is down right now..but Cleveland shows the band somewhat well. The metro area does have some potential over the next 6 hours before the shortwave passes given the backing of the winds to the WSW.

Excellent points Nick. I've been following LES for the better part of 40 years, and there are even some more nuiances to forecasting LES off the E. Lakes....as a matter of fact, each lake has it's own personality, that changes individually throughout the course of the season, in a fairly predictable fashion. (ie, Erie and Geo Bay freezing over, which limits/changes downstream potentials, orientations or factors determining single or multi banded structures....etc....)

Perrysburg already came in with 3.6". I like the map but I'd extend 1-3" at least...perhaps 3-6" into Wyoming County. Warsaw Hill is getting clobbered right now.

Yeah....good quibble, but Euro has been and is still killing the LES rather quickly off Erie....still nice for those getting white for the first time this season!
