Probably would have a very tight wind field on the west side, since it doesn't really go ET...but 50-60mph winds will do a number on trees. Nature's tree trimming.

What worries me is we haven't had a good trimming in the Boston suburbs in sometime. Drive through Quincy, huge oaks lining the road and surrounding homes...trouble

First evacuations starting it seems in NC

ALEIGH, N.C. (AP)— Authorities on North Carolina's Ocracoke Island have issued a mandatory evacuation order for visitors to leave starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday as Hurricane Irene approaches.

Tomorrow? That seems early. The thing hasn't even hit the bahamas and its crawling lol

This is my 65th hurricane season....maybe my 58th of awareness. My benchmark storms are Carol, Edna, Hazel, Donna, and to a much lesser extent Bob. Disclaimer: I was on the west coast for Gloria. I'm thinking Irene has a solid chance of making into my personal hall of fame.

No, it looks like they definitely did from the 18z runs.

OK good thought I was going insane. Got to work at 6 or so... did wx in the morning... out to do a story around noon and then anchored 2 hours of our earthquake special report. Looooong day with no sleep.
