stormitecture
Still giggle anytime I see Cockburn Town on a map. It's what you get after visiting Intercourse, PAI can't get over all the folks saying "no landfall" as if they are so certain this early. Granted it's still possible...but to lock in now is pure weenism. I need to find some good discussion as to why folks think it if there is a legit reason for that forecast. I said recently...Weed Trimmer is NOT a cane chaser. He thinks he is...but he hasn't had anything to show for it.

Calderon
he hasn't had anything to show for it. this goes for most of his stuff because he doesn't STFU and let the storm do the talking. BACK UP!, NOT GOOD!, etc...

Hurriplane
Where do you see this? Checked the weather in the news and they tracked recon and found 168 mph winds, what an outlier.

Hoosier
Moi. This probably has as good a chance as anything in the SE US but something will probably screw it up like a poorly timed ERC.
A-L-E-X
Who's ready to go out on a climo-bucking limb and predict a borderline Cat 4 US landfall? Nah-- a "low" end Cat 4 somewhere in the Bahamas perhaps, but it will "weaken" to a Cat 3 as it slows down before making landfall.
thewxmann
Who's ready to go out on a climo-bucking limb and predict a borderline Cat 4 US landfall? Definitely not. The "bombing" shown on the models is most likely expansion of the windfield prior to landfall, not intensification of the storm itself. Such a windfield expansion would likely be the result of dry air entrainment from the N. American continent.

Idk,.. I agree, she has the best chance. I storms always seem to... However, I think she's ramped up enough early that there is a possibility that she can do her ERC (probably 2, from now until then) in time to be an absolute monster. Granted, this is if she stays in the Gulf Stream 30c+ bath water temps.

Maybe as she comes into land she may drop down to high-end cat 3... but I just don't see anything stopping her. Everything seems favorable. Yeah I could definitely see this intensifying to a Cat 4 in the next couple days. Just not landfall at that intensity. At least without favorable midlatitude influences, and none are being progged. thewxmann
There's nothing particularly unfavorable that's being shown though...right? None that I see, so it might not weaken as much as storms like Floyd, etc. But the drought conditions over parts of the SE and the large size of Irene argues for significant dry air entrainment prior to landfall.
